Project Managers

Yes, non technical program/project managers & directors make product decisions all the time in various support divisions I had been with. I guess it makes them feel important to tell people what to do and force it no matter. They simply move from... — read more

If I was to run Qualcomm

If I run Q a) Remove the titles of people : No titles. Everyone is employee....and managers. b) Performance to be evaluated by everyone. You can review everyone and anyone you want. You can write whatever you are writing on this site. The evaluation... — read more

Hitting Middle Management

The Q is already or has been hitting middle management by cutting the many extra benefits of the executive plan. Essentially they are getting the same coverage as a new hire. They truly have lost that connection with their employees. It use to be a... — read more

QC is between a rock and a hard place

QC is between a rock and a hard place wrt apps processors. Apple and Samsung on top, Mediatek on the bottom. Intel, Nvidia, TI etc. lurking nearby. On the modem side there is competition from many vendors. The rest of the tech world has caught up to... — read more

Mollenkopf fiddles while Morehouse burns

Am guessing the reason Steve looked so nervous at All Hands was that $20 Million doesn't go as far as it used to. Meanwhile, Paul has to fly his Canadian wife clone all over with him. Lucky that Qualcomm is still footing the bill for the private... — read more

QCOM is becoming a company of project and program managers who are eating all cream and left over is coming to real work force

in long career of 8 years i had seen how core values have diminished. It was just few years ago we used to talk about issues, technical details, brainstorm small to big things .... not we talk about resource mountain chart, we see PMs taking decision... — read more

I have never seen Steve M. being so nervous! DON'T worry about stock prices, my fellow QC employees! Steve said so.

I have never seen Steve M. being so nervous and fidgeting so much during all hands meeting. His voice was breaking on a couple of occasions and he was almost stuttering in the beginning of the meeting. George’s presentation is also a joke. “The... — read more

LTE baseband report

QC is still the dominate LTE provider, though MediaTek, Spreadtrum and Huawei looks like have been gaining ground. Once you give the technology know-how to other companies that use to be your customer, it's only a matter of time before they become... — read more

It's all about "unlocking shareholder value" (layoffs)

When I first started at Qualcomm decades ago, Irwin and crew's emphasis was always about innovation and pushing the envelope with IS-95. Years later, it was about pushing the envelope with HDR, and then again with OFDMA and its Flarion acquisition... — read more

What do you do with $95 million anyway?

Do CEO's actually spend $95 million, or is the amount like a trophy and a way of keeping score? It just seems sort of, well, sick. Especially when there are pending layoffs.

Layoff is biased - older and more experienced going first

If you look closely at the statistics, the Qualcomm layoffs are very biased. They hit older employees way beyond the statistical average. Is this trading experience for cheap labor or outright age discrimination.

What i like best about this forum...

Exposes the true QCOM culture and how dysfunctional it is..i also like how it has become the official employee forum for sharing the latest relevant news/company developments and is not propagandizing, unlike the QCdaily newsletters

Post here if you've found another job yet

Market seems pretty tough...not a single interview yet and I've been getting the word out about my availability since after the new year. I hope we are not at the start of a repeat of 2009..

Instead of hiring engineers overseas to save on cost, how about hiring marketing and program managers overseas to save on cost.....

Since bean counters like to do bean counting math and propose hiring 6+ engineers in bangalore or china "for the same cost as hiring 1 engineer in the U.S.".... I think companies would save more money if they hired 20+ marketing people for the same... — read more
