Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

The Sprint doom-loop

I have said it before and I will say it again, anything that Sprint touches fails in the end. Look out T-Mobile legacy employees... I give you 5 more years before Sprint pulls T-Mobile USA into bankruptcy. Sprint and everything Sprint was and is cancer. Good luck with it all, you will need it!

@y8 they why is Sprint no more? Sprint is no longer a company, Sprint no longer has assets or employees and 90% of what Sprint owned is now gone to a landfill. If Sprint was so great, where are they, where is the network.... Seems to me the OP is right, everything Sprint touched ends up in a landfill given enough time passes.

@1sq Former Sprint Employees < Current Tmo employees. TMO Hunger games, may the odds be ever in your favor.

@y9 Sprint supplied spectrum, the rest were things to divest.

@y9 Sprint destroyed Nextel who had a solid blue collar worker following. Clear wire as previously mentioned another joke of a decision. T-Mobile needed spectrum which Sprint had. We consolidated their cr-ppy network into ours. Ffs they had to remove Huawei prior to the merger because the federal government banned it.

Sprint is somehow is now somehow in charge. Explains the discord internally and high churn rate.

@jh T-Mobile took the Sprint 5G and converted to T-Mobile standard. They shut down the legacy 3G/IS-41 junk that had Sprint relying on Verizon for 3G Roaming. All the folks who built T-Mobile either retired or were laid off for inferior Sprint folks who, because most were in Overland Park, were compensated at a rate 25% less than those in Bellevue (market rate salary differences). Reducing salary costs by 25% really helps a lot.

@y8 Nice creative editing.

John Saw and Mike Sievert were both responsible for the Clearwire debacle. Sievert was with Clearwire and Sprint before he infected T-Mobile.

Saw was the technology genius behind the failure of WiMax, and the thought that IS-41 Sprint and iDEN they bought from Nextel could merge. Was never done. Sprint's 2.5G technology providers were completely replaced with T-Mobile gear within 12 months. Additionally, Saw oversaw an operational group that had one complete ops group for 2.5G (GSM) technology and another for legacy IS-41 (3G) technology. Part of the 2023 layoffs were all the redundant Sprint Ops teams.

Neville Ray set the table for Ulf to be a success. Ulf's lack of personality and independent thought is why he's gone.

T-Mobile was nothing prior to Sprint. Sprint workforce brought talent, enguenity, creativity and in the end, results to help push the stock up.

Literally the stupidest post ever, literally three of eleven in senior leadership are legacy Sprint employees.

The "Sprint Alumni" (Leaders who came from Sprint)

These are the key executives who held senior roles at Sprint prior to the merger and are currently in top leadership positions at T-Mobile:

John Saw (President of Technology & Chief Technology Officer)

Sprint Background: He was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Sprint and is credited with building their 2.5 GHz 5G strategy. He initially led "Advanced & Emerging Technologies" at the new T-Mobile before rising to the top technology role.

Deeanne King (Executive Vice President & Chief People Officer)

Sprint Background: She served as Sprint’s Chief Human Resources Officer and Chief Diversity Officer. She has led T-Mobile's HR and culture integration since the merger.

Nestor Cano (EVP, Transformation and Chief Information Officer)

Sprint Background: He was the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Sprint, having joined them in 2017 to help turn around their operations.

Full Senior Leadership Team (Executive Committee)

Here is the broader list of the top leadership, most of whom are legacy T-Mobile or Deutsche Telekom (DT) executives:

Srini Gopalan (Chief Executive Officer)

Background: Deutsche Telekom (Board Member for Germany). He became CEO on Nov 1, 2025.

Mike Sievert (Vice Chairman of the Board)

Background: Legacy T-Mobile. He served as CEO from 2020 to 2025 before transitioning to Vice Chairman.

Peter Osvaldik (EVP & Chief Financial Officer)

Background: Legacy T-Mobile (and formerly PwC).

Mark Nelson (EVP & General Counsel)

Background: Legacy T-Mobile (joined from Cleary Gottlieb).

Mike Katz (President, Marketing, Strategy & Products)

Background: Legacy T-Mobile (a long-time veteran of the "Un-carrier" marketing team).

Jon Freier (President, Consumer Group)

Background: Legacy T-Mobile (long-time leader of T-Mobile’s retail and consumer operations).

Andre Almeida (President, Growth & Emerging Businesses)

Background: Deutsche Telekom (formerly head of Consumer/Residential in Germany).

Omar Tazi (EVP, Chief Product and Digital Officer)

Background: Deutsche Telekom / T-Mobile (formerly T-Mobile Board Member and DT Innovation lead).

Ulf Ewaldsson (President, Network)

Background: Joined T-Mobile just prior to the merger (formerly Ericsson), so he is generally considered T-Mobile legacy rather than Sprint.

Three months ago most senior leadership Including the CEO cashed out and left at all time high stock prices and we got a bunch of people from overseas to run these spots… probably all cheaper to hire tasked with leaning the fat. Guess what? Most tech companies have done the same but one thing they all forget is that the same people you layoffs will make sure their families and friends will never support your business that’s for sure so go ahead and layoff thousands but you just put a nail in your own coffin ⚰️

If that is true how come T-mobile market cap increased like that since Sprint merger? It’s not right to put people in such boxes.

T-Mobile was such a great company. They ruined it, especially the close knit culture we built.
