Curious how coffee badging is kept track of when there is no exit badging. Is there additional monitoring going on? Does anyone know how this is kept track of?

It's like high school but no open campus
@1er yes, it has been. You do realize management gets different communication from you, right? The 2 weeks except is in the policy that’s available to everyone. If you get an exception that’s less than two weeks, It’s up to you to document it or your manager. I document it in an email to my team and direct them to keep it through the next report cycle. If you need more than 2 weeks it’s goes through Ask HR accommodation request.
I've been told it is ok for me to badge in then work from the parking lot on a wifi hotspot when I have covid.
@1ds So, the averages no longer apply to that employee? I don't think you are correct. How does the Manager/Director/VP put that in for the employee? They can't. Has any of this been communicated? Of course not. Your scenario does not matter to the policy. They must make it up.
That’s false. If you have a circumstance that requires an approval to be home for up to two weeks and manager approves then you don’t need to make it up. Id--t, that’s the whole point of approval, accommodation, exception… @1a9
@19x this employee has been here 30 years and never abused the 3 days. She was in office the same time I was every week but she moved under a new manager and frankly- the dude is a Di-k.
@1a8 correct.
@1a8 - Managers do not choose this. The VPs and HR is doing this by keeping averages and counting PTO and Holidays as working from home and requiring employees to come into the office to make them up. That is the policy! If you are allowed to stay home for two weeks you must make those days up too. It's a bad policy causing people to come in when sick. Sure people will get sick and may even die...but they are good with it.
@19z The policy is that managers have discretion to let people stay home for up to two weeks when they’re sick. Managers being d*mb and choosing not to do that is the problem.
@159 - Yes. Our department also has had multiple people in sick with a variety of ailments, including Covid, in the last week. Back to school brings a lot of sickness. People have to come in to get their in office average up after going on PTO this summer. HR should really rethink this dangerous policy.
@159 yeah, her manager doesn’t pay attention. The manager absolutely has discretion. Good managers will do just that if the employee has a good track record. If an employee is always trying to game the system, then that’s a different matter.
@159 her manager su-ks. The guidance from HR is clear that her manager can let her stay home.
@ws yes indeed. Someone in my department came in sick today. She has pto but was told by her manager that she needs 3 days
@14r oh so you are special??
I am so happy this doesn't apply across the board to all people in all divisions. You guys all sound so miserable dealing with these limits on your WFH.
@12w - I have not seen that as the policy and it has not been communicated how they calculate 3 or even 2 day averages with "Manager Discretion". The lack of communication is the issue. PTO, Holidays and WFH for sickness or Covid and life events are much more than 26 days.
@10x You think the additional 26 days per year of work from home which this reporting threshold allows for is unreasonable?
@10x My leader received a follow-up email from HR saying he should “interpret” the report with any “additional context” he may have.
That doesn’t sound like a hard and fast rule to me.
@10x Show your math, because that’s not even close to being true.
@10q - Even at two days average, if someone has a lot of PTO, buys an extra week of PTO, has to stay at home for a week or so for whatever reason, then they will not average two days a week. They will have to come in 4 or 5 days a week to meet that average at the end of the year. So, people will need to come in sick if they are to meet that cutoff this policy dictates.
Sounds like you all have sh!tty leaders who don’t cascade communications appropriately.
@10e My VP received the FAQ via a link in an email when she was given access to the attendance reports (a few weeks ago?). She forwarded the email to us, and the link takes us to a document on myHR.
It also states the reason for the report only showing employees averaging under 2 days (when the attendance policy is 3 days) is to account for full use of PTO and company holidays.
@106 - Correct. None of
this Manager discretion policy has been shared with us Managers and Directors. Quite the opposite. We have been told to have people come in to get their averages above three days a week, they count PTO and Holidays as work from home, and the only exceptions are if the employee submits a FMLA request and then it is reviewed and approved by HR. So, people must come in to get their average up...sick or not. At the end of the year, Manager discretion is not part of the formula to calculate averages.
@105 Where is that manager discretion/2 weeks of WFH time documented? I am a manager and none of that has been shared with me.
@yq not true. Manager has discretion and can allow an employee up to 2 weeks of wfh time. If the employee needs more than this then they have to submit an HR ticket to request an accommodation. It’s in the policy just go read it instead of spreading misinformation.
@yq Managers have discretion to allow employees to work from home in this circumstance. It’s in the FAQ.
@xr - Not everyone who gets Covid are unable to work. So, they can take their precious PTO when they are able to work, work from home and be penalized for it...or come into the office and infect others. They are coming into the office while having Covid to comply with this policy.
This policy does not allow for manager discretion.
And miss out on the stunning collaboration, cross-functional communication, and company culture? No chance that I'm going to be left behind as the momentum picks up steam.
Nope. As long as I can semi get myself in and remain at my desk, I'll be there!
@ws if they have COVID shouldn't they be taking PTO or their paid sick and wellness days to recuperate?
We have people with Covid who must come into the office now or face disciplinary action. It's an id--tic policy that will get people ki-led.
@d9 I totally agree with you, we should all break every policy we do not like. WELL SAID! There is absolutely no reason for the company to expect us to follow any policies. Lead the revolt, I will follow you!
@d7 Not shocked and I’m sure that’s the story in most offices the hall monitor types don’t have much else to offer
@c0 you sound like a truly miserable coworker. You have no line of sight about what people do and where they do it not personal approvals or circumstances.
@d7 several departments have designated snitches. That is obscene. And unfair to them.
@cw a coworker has a sick child coming home from the hospital. She was told no wfh without an approved accommodation. Well the kid is coming home today- so that accommodation likely won’t be approved for her for next week.
What have we become???
There are 2 people on my team who are very invested in other people's schedule and presence in the office. They are also 2 of the d-mbest, most incompetent people I've ever worked with. Not saying that's true for everyone, but some of you all might benefit from some self-reflection.
@cv preach! I'm not saying that some office enforcement is a bad thing, the issue is that they make it seem like they have the policy as 3 days no matter what. It is a short-sited policy, Covid has shown us in temporary cases, working from home can be more beneficial for you. Sick kids, family issues, cold, bad weather, etc. There should be 6 weeks per year minimum that you are given to work from home due to these things coming up, along with holiday weeks. Do they really think people are more effective when they are forced to come in when dealing with these things?
lol I don’t know who has what going on. Pto fmla off site meetings, appointments, sick kids, lunch times.
I just do my job and let people do theirs.
Some of you obviously don’t have enough of your own work to do that you want to manage others.
No. I despise being mandated in like a preschooler. If I only have to play the stupid game for a few minutes, no chance I'm doing anything more.
If HCSC really cared, they'd invest in a badge out system. They have not so they get what they get.
At this point I am just encouraging all of the Coffee Badgers and FLEX-abusers to keep doing what they are doing. The sooner the company fires them and I never have to hear about this drama again, the better. I am so over it all. This is absolutely the d-mbest years-long soap opera ever, and it should have been canceled three seasons ago.
