Thread regarding United Healthcare layoffs

API/network team is growing ?

Rumor is that with Optum Real getting phased out, the work is going back to UHC for the super connectors project. Any truth to how stable the team will be long term as it grows?

I was RIFd and interviewed last week for a UHC position and they're excited about APIs and going direct to market. Big shot in the arm after Optum foot dragging has slowed their innovation.

@tg OR has a couple of small handful of user MPP pilots that have not gone well. A possible outcome of Alpha/Beta testing is the prototype doesn't work and you shut it down. Good business doesn't take a back of the envelope idea and push it to market, you test and if doesn't work you cut bait.

UHC is investing time and energy in an Optum project that will get mothballed and is only continuing to save face for Optum leadership. UHC dollars are thin. I wouldn't be surprised if it's rebranded Real 2.0 and is re-orged after earnings.

@td What grade level are you? Are middle managers already aware that OR is going away and that multipayer failed. The workerbees have not heard anything about this.

I work for a Blue and we said no thanks to OptumReal. There's work on a national Blue version of OptumReal for all the Blues plans across the US in the Assn. Software collaboration will save Blues plans billions to cut out Optum

When do they plan to announce this internally? My team works directly with OR and we have not heard anyone mention that OR is being phased out and that multipayer. Sad I have to come to this site to obtain information. What will happen to clients who have already implemented OR?

@p7 Multipayer failed. If you're a Payer why give margin to another Payer to handle transactions and [poorly] control the Provider experience? Head of OR will be gone in a month or two and lame duck since the announcement.

Next is use a third party with Optum to do multipayer. Again, why would a hyperscaler give Optum one penny, but instead do it themselves? Or work with an RCM company that's far easier to work with on a JV?

EHRs are blocking OR and going directly to Payers. UHC will bypass OR to plug into EHRs. SH thinks middleman is necessary and everyone sees differently. Mark Cuban comes out with his own Optum K!ller competitor better execution and reign in costs.

Epic and others making major strides to reduce cost and friction in the system which negates Optum. To survive, UHC/UHG will dump OR soon.

If Optum Real is being phased out does that mean they are not moving forward with multipayer? Any timeline as to when it is supposed to be phased out?
