Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

The hypocrisy is staggering

Management loves to brag about perks and post about balance, but ignore a late night message and suddenly you are the example in a meeting. The whole wellness message rings hollow when the expectations never switch off. You can see who gets protected and who does not, and it is not subtle. I would take blunt and direct over this polished version of pressure any day.

@r3 So true. I started working in a new area and was appalled by some if the stuff I heard people talk about. Many are located in Virginia Beach and talk about affairs and one of the directors being a womanizer. People who’ve worked in the same department for 10 years or more. Then when I didn’t want to talk about anything personal my manager would say tell me about your personal life. Let’s waste meeting time to make stupid small talk. He-l no! I don’t want to give anyone anything they could possibly talk about he behind my back about. It was like working in the twilight zone. Weird a-s people saying they named their dog after a director. Like what?!!!!!!!

@py - I know of employees whose main delight in life is to gossip for as much of the day as they can avoid actual work. They feast on mundane personal details, and attempt to dig for more juicy tidbits. They’re like middle schoolers.

@py creativity - LOL - be prepared for a really long story - with alot of detail, and I mean alot of detail. PS - it will all be impacted by my requirement to be at my desk constantly to answer your endless IM messages, but anyway....here come the details ....maybe I will end up needing a medical excuse that I have to get up frequently - hope not - can't wait. I love being micromanaged closer than I monitored my newborn

@eb More obsessions about PowerPoints for the love of God! is with this issue?
Texting me on my day off will end up with a lack of response unless you can show me where I am meant to be available 24/7. Also the day I share my personal life with anyone at this place is a cold day in he-l. Just to complete the thought, when I request PTO it is for a personal reason, not a reason good enough for anyone but me. But if you want graphic details related to my PTO request - be prepared creativity is my strong suit

@fx Once a year they encourage associates to send in their s-b stories about being ill or abused and then Elevance picks like 10 people to go on all expense paid wellness retreat for a week . Then they have to tell their story for Pulse where the talk about how it helped them reset their lives. Elevance gets to look like the hero. The stupid part is no one ever mentions how the toxic work environment contributes to the burnout many of us feel. So you can’t get the retreat unless you tell your “story” to the entirety of Elevance. It’s exploitation imo.

It’s just so fake it makes me want to puke. The last director I worked under pretended like they cared about your work life balance but then would nitpick about a PowerPoint for hours. Her favorites could take off last minute for kid issues or call out sick no problem. If the people she didn’t like had any kid issues or called out sick they all the sudden “ couldn’t handle the stress”. And thus stupid Destination Wellness cr-p every year is like a competition for who has the worst illness/ domestic abuse situation going on. Kinda makes me sick that we let these people get all paid expenses trip while many if us can’t take our earned PTO without a manager questioning it or texting you on your day off. Destination Wellness pi---s me off every year.
