Thread regarding Nokia Corp. layoffs

Walmart VP takes money from Indian contractors

Is something similar happening at Nokia in TX, IL, NJ as well (for years)? Maybe not a VP but perhaps directors and managers?

@392 This only applies to those outside of USA. Those already in USA (like F1 visa students, or other visa holders like H1B, O1, J1, OPT) won't have to pay the $100K fee since they are already on USA soil. Since most American jobs are given to those foreigners on US soil already, the TACO executive order won't do much to get American jobs back in the hands of Americans or American citizen college graduates. Congress needs to change the laws.

@qs $100,000 annual fee for H-1B visa applications will take effect on Sunday, September 21, 2025. The fee must be paid each year for up to six years for each H-1B worker. It applies to both new visas and renewals.

@qs I smelt nepotism from this. Instead of hiring locally he just massively import people from India.

@qs Not only H1B visa is a scam but now also O1 visa. When they can't get the H1B through lottery and or their OPT ( Optional Practical Training ) is expiring, they apply for O1.
"O-1 visa is for individuals with demonstrated extraordinary ability in their field."
Wonder what type of EXTRAORDINARY ABILITY they have, that they want to work for this company instead of the Mag-7. The entire USA Visa system has become a scam.

@jt in Nokia too there are lot of people on visas e.g. L1 visa who got transferred from Nokia India to Nokia US. then since L1 visa expires in 7 yrs max, Nokia sponsors H1b for all these and thus u have many H1bs.

@f8 At least now I am seeing them hiring more American students as interns which is a good sign. I also think those interns from the same country brought unhealthy work culture as I always saw them work overtime.

@a1 How do we collect evidence? That's the key. We also gotta protect ourselves cuz I think they can track who you are.

Still seeing Nokia apply for new H1B applications and renewing H1B visa applications and other work visa. Time to for Nokia to hire Americans if it wants Americas business in Research, NI, MN, CNS, NT, etc. Too many jobs being outsource to foreign countries. If majority of the revenues come from USA, than majority of the jobs should also be in USA.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said in an interview to Fox News that the H1B has become a “total scam”.
“These companies game the system. You have some of these companies that are laying off large numbers of Americans while they’re also getting new H1Bs and renewing H1Bs,” he said.
DeSantis said that people used to say that America is getting the “cream of the crop” from all around the world through the H1B visa system.
“The reality is that’s not actually what H1B are. Most of them are from one country, India. There’s a cottage industry about how all that people make money off this system.”

In a social media post on Tuesday, Lutnick said, “The current H1B visa system is a scam that lets foreign workers fill American job opportunities. Hiring American workers should be the priority of all great American businesses. Now is the time to hire American.”

Texas location Indian managers mainly hire Indians on H1B. And than they treat the H1B employees to deliver results with lots of pressure put on them. Especially those in the wireless radio test verification teams. And the H1B employee is stuck. If he complains, his job is at risk cause several Indian managers work together and cover for each other. It's been going on for years. HR or ethical teams don't hear about such cases because the H1B employee is afraid to lose his job and having to go back to his country. Besides, HR and Ethics teams are taught to protect the company (due to lawsuits), not the employee. And then they say, this company is a winner in Ethics for several years in a row. That's a bunch of baloney.

It's been going on in the NJ location for years. They still have a lady who is in the higher ups doing this type of stuff. Not sure how she's been able to get away with this for decades.

There is ongoing discussion on Blind and Reddit about an alleged contractor kickback scheme at Walmart. A Vice President was reportedly tied to subcontractor Caspex and accused of taking kickbacks structured as a per-contractor hourly fee, estimated at around $5 per hour per worker, which could have amounted to tens of millions annually. Contractors were allegedly funneled in through consulting firms connected to the VP or associates, with money routed back to leadership and sometimes disguised as real estate deals in India. The VP was said to have overseen about 400 of the 1200 contractors, but after the fraud came to light, all 1200 were terminated. Caspex was also accused of misusing a $5 million PPP loan. Rumors suggest the VP was fired but still owns multiple properties and has accumulated significant wealth, reducing the financial impact of job loss. Online reactions have been mixed, with some calling for law enforcement and RICO charges, others pointing out corruption of this kind is common in tech, and the debate spiraling into racial and national origin blame, particularly toward Indian executives and H1B contractors, with some users pushing back against such stereotyping. Overall, the case has sparked heated debate about systemic corruption, hiring practices, and accountability.
