Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

There’s no way I’m relocating for this job

You’re supposed to throw your savings at moving costs, uproot your whole life and your family, just to lose the job a few months later anyway? No chance. This push feels like a strategy to get us to quit. Agreeing to relocate just makes you a more expensive nuisance to cut later. I understand people are holding onto their jobs for dear life right now, but relocating likely won’t save yours. It’ll just add financial ruin to the stress.

@pf just watch, that will be for the executives too. I think the entire executive leadership team will be in Canada by the end of the year (except maybe for Sales).

Yes if you are over 50km from office then they don't want you .

I'm virtual, but was told moving to an office was only for those 50km or less from an office. Maybe that's in the US?

In a stable "Growth" company, relocating shows commitment. In a "Restructuring" company (like OpenText is right now), relocating is often a gamble with bad odds.

OT will be here in 18 months. It will have gotten rid of the rubbish and will be very profitable

"This push feels like a strategy to get us to quit."

Not trying to be mean, but is this your first time here? Plenty of us have been warning y'all about this since MB was heaved out of his office chair by heavy machinery. OT is not going to exist in 18 months, tops. These strategies are designed to avoid WARN act requirements and severance payouts. You are being managed out.

I've told everyone on this board that you just need to get up and walk out all at once. There is nothing here for you at all. Just quit. You owe them nothing, they do not care about you beyond your position on a spreadsheet and since they maneuvering to avoid paying your severance, you have no need to complete this absurd endurance challenge of employment.

Go sling coffee, wash cars, teach, go on the dole, whatever. It's better than the stress of playing OT's games by OT's rules to OT's advantage.

You could agree to relocate and then don't. At least you'll be getting paid while job hunting.

That's why mandatory RTO is so effective for saving on severance. Employees either quit or get fired due to non compliance.

I think you’re stressing too much. A lot of people are virtual. Could it be a sign of more? Maybe. But doesn’t mean it is.
