Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Activity Reports - Mouse clicks, characters, etc.?

My boss says they are tracking our activity daily and sending reports to leadership. Can someone explain what exactly they are tracking? Has anyone seen these reports?

Why does anyone think their tracking reports would be accurate enough to do anything with when nothing else there is accurate

Us innovators have moved on since we saw the writing on the wall when wells took over. Stop belly aching and find something that makes you happy 🤷🏻‍♂️

@gj you make a very good point. In office is all for collaboration yet they are tracking how much we are on our computers.

Makes sense for Wells.

Neither typing nor clicking is the core of my job. Most of it is time wasting banter / chat in teams. And how is the in person collaboration that the CEO says is the most important thing we do being captured? Hmmm? They going to install web cams on the water cooler? This place is a complete joke.

A company that spends its money on surveillance and suspicion of its workforce will not inspire innovation or productivity. Who wants to make the company they work for better when its jammed so far up your backside they're using you as a muppet?

@c1 There is a report for hours in office because I have team members on it.

I haven't seen reports but I saw a "guide" a few months ago that talked about what they're tracking and how to deal with it. From what I remember it was on office apps -- teams, outlook, etc. and that you're actually using them - doing emails, calendar entries, team meetings/chats, etc. I don't remember what other apps they're tracking -- not sure if they're tracking JIRA etc.

I think the idea is that people might be online or in the office, but not actually doing anything.

I mean, heck, I've seen people on my floor just looking at their phone. I saw one guy months ago that had is personal laptop and was watching a soccer game. Another guy had his ipad on his desk and was watching the stock market.

@bx @by @c1 , tell me you don’t understand tracking software without telling me you don’t understand tracking software (or corporate risk decisions or technology in general).

All of the core information in this thread is true. But please, keep your heads buried in the sand if you choose not to believe it. It may or may not materially affect you but that doesn’t really matter to me. Reports are being generated, people see them, fine tuning must occur. I expect to be displaced or terminated for cause by EOY 26 based on all the new changes.

The “security risk” is easily mitigated by 1 risk acceptance (leaders decide it is ok to take snaps/record sensitive data if it’s stored onprem because who cares), 2 software automation can (and does) obfuscate potentially sensitive data automatically. There is no lawsuit basis here. No expectation of privacy as this is not a public environment, you consented to electronic monitoring as part of your employment paperwork and if you are like most and have been here forever, you have since signed additional clauses allowing it.

At scale monitoring, you still haven’t heard of AI I see? At scale filtering of Data Lake information has existed for quite some time. AI is making it simpler and faster. This is the kind of work AI excels at. Instead of 20 “security personnel “ reviewing key word matches you have 2 reviewing AI conversational matches that have strung together weeks worth of algorithmic constructs resulting in a “bad actor match “

Say what you want about Wells Tech as a whole (we are behind and pretty horrible in areas), there are significant strides being made in places where the focus has shifted.

@by Exactly, it could be a huge security risk given passwords, sensitive information, and customer’s personal data. This goes for screen captures as well.

It also can’t be evenly applied because every role is a little bit different. My role involves a lot of “hurry up and wait” or needing to sit and watch what’s happening on screen (monitoring live reports) rather than clicking/typing.

A good example is to think of our collectors/account resolution specialists, who sometimes have to sit and wait 10+ minutes before they get fed a live call. It doesn’t mean they are away from their desk or PC, just that they have nothing to do at that particular moment.

Senior leaders shared with us on a call about the 8 hour requirement that they don’t even have a report to monitor the hours yet. If they don’t have a report like that, then I think a report about this is a long ways down the implementation pipeline

Anytime a counterargument is made - it’s always an appeal to authority as rebuttal. Tell us all how it’s possible to monitor 200k employees at scale instead of “my daddy says they log keystrokes’. Do you realize what a security risk logging keystrokes is?

Ok someone who is on calls all day long that doesn’t do much typing - I guess they are unproductive. Jobs where you think more than type - unproductive. See how there are a couple of simple cases where false positives would come up. So I guess we have unlimited resources to investigate each one. I can’t tell if people are lying here or just d-mb

Some of these comments are so ignorant. I don’t know what line of business you’re in but they are tracking idle, inactive, active and lock time by mouse clicks and keystrokes. You can take it from me as someone who almost got fired for “keyboard manipulation” when it didn’t actually happen. I was able to prove to them that I was actually working during the times they accused me of, however, others weren’t so lucky.

@as there's no executable, it's system logs sent to a log aggregation platform

@as they 100% are tracking this. I’ve seen the reporting, it goes back for several months. You’re given a productivity metric (basically the number of productive hours) you average each day. So far it’s only been given to senior mangers but it’s going to be released to all mangers soon

There is also reporting on inactivity and reporting that looks for something being placed on your keyboard to keep your computer active

It’s funny how people think the company has a fully automated Orwellian apparatus for mass surveillance. We are at least 3 years behind competitors in digital - use your brains

They have the ability to track:

• Obviously badge swipes and IP address with location and length of time spent.
• Time sbd tickets in Jira
• Time spent on collaborative software - MS Teams chat, calls with at least one other person added, shared files.

Are they tracking mouse clicks.

At least once a week we get a post like this. Let us know which executable is the monitoring one. My boss says they aren’t doing tracking!

@ak every time you long into your work computer/account you consent to be tracked, they are legally covered

Slippery slope that could open them up to lawsuits. Users typically have to consent to such a thing. I wrote an app long ago that tracked users mouse clicks and took screenshots without the user knowing it. Lawyers lost their sh-t and shut it down immediately

Yes, several of us in my area recently had Celonis installed. I haven't seen the reports or know exactly what it's tracking but I presume it's a tool to figure out where they can do more layoffs and offshoring.

I use copilot a lot, try to never skip a meeting and turn on the cam at least once a week. Use teams for everything to take notes, meetings with yourself, and keep track of tasks. Tracking us like that is BS so let's overwhelm the system. 😌
