H-1B announcement - Impact on VZ?

How do you think the recent announcement requiring $100,000 per year for H1B visas will impact VZ?

Recognizing that existing holders are exempt, what do you think the timing of any impacts will be?

Especially interested to hear from any current H1B or L1 visa holders.

People from India are trying to (and have been successful) stealing the American way of life and standard of living. They should build their own standard of living and stay within their own borders.

Send em all back. Americans need to get their jobs back to support their families.
Let the folks from India find jobs in India.

No material impact. VZ has relatively few H1B workers - under 500. They'll just not hire more and move those roles straight to VZIndia.

Verizon does not care about the quality of work or questionable credentials as someone mentioned. All they care about is reducing US headcounts and costs. They will pay to relocate the person back to India with same job. At some point, when there is zero revenue accretion, no more cost reductions, the company breaks and we all finally get to see what VZ has been hiding in the books

Last week I saw an elephant tethered to one of the support posts in the parking garage!! AN ELEPHANT!!!
I'd say, "no sh1t!" But there was plenty of that!

It keeps getting deleted because it heads down the racist path which is breaking the site's ToS. Keep the discussion clean and we should be ok.

Zero. VZ will use contracting firms that will bare that cost. Or hire from those firms after the fee is already paid. There are more than enough H1B in the states to go around.

What is likely to happen has already happened for VZ - US jobs have moved to Dublin, Chennai, Hyderabad, etc.

Until there is a leadership mindset change and better ways to spend money, more US jobs will continue to go overseas...

Trump signs proclamation imposing $100,000 fee for new H-1B visa applications

In the proclamation, the White House said the H-1B nonimmigrant visa program was "created to bring temporary workers into the United States to perform additive, high-skilled functions, but it has been deliberately exploited to replace, rather than supplement, American workers with lower-paid, lower-skilled labor."

This will just accelerate jobs being moved to India or Ireland

I think it will have a positive impact if Verizon has to hire quality American born candidates instead of H1B workers with questionable credentials.

Based on the company's filing, almost exclusively from India. 700+ vs a handful from other countries.

This will have a huge impact: $70 million in fees + 700 full load payroll

Game over, unless they have some magic that translates into ungamed net-adds, improved customer service, and network service.

H1B game over!
