So like many I was impacted by the JEs that took place on 2/19. I had been at Cigna for my entire career which got me the full 52 weeks of severance plus the 9 weeks notification period. It’s been 6 weeks since that eventful day and I must say it has been an amazing break from the grind. I have been getting tons of sleep while also being able to clear my head and actually sit back, relax and enjoy my kids for the first time in forever. I’m glad to report that I did just accept an offer at one of Cigna’s competitors starting on 4/13 and making about 10% more than I did at Cigna. I plan on savoring the last week before going back to the grind and looking forward to Cigna paying out my last 3 weeks of the notification period plus the 52 weeks of severance. If all goes well I will be getting paid by my new employer while Cigna pays, this will allow me to collect double salary for the next 54 weeks. I’m writing just to let people know that there is life at Cigna and it can end up being a big mental health and financial win for you!

@OP Congratulations!
@jp should be around 26 yrs. 2 weeks for every year
That’s awesome as I was just JE today. Sadly this company has drained everything out of me. Frankly they su-k for lack of a better word. They don’t give a sh-t about anybody, notice how they’re always hiring people at the executive level because they need more directors and senior directors and “chiefs of staff “. I’ve never been at a more dysfunctional company in my life.!
@jb totally missed it.. it’s been very hard for me..
I too was JE'd on 2/19 and I asked Gemini some questions about garden leave and severance - and it says I ought to terminate my garden leave if starting a new job within my notice period so it doesnt look like it doesnt look funny on paper when I pursue any future jobs thereafter. If I land a job before my term date I will want from HR in writing that I can start a new job while on notice.
@OP how many years did you have to get 52 full weeks payout?
@hc about a week or two after 2/19 HR set up different meetings people could attend to ask questions about the severance, benefits, pay etc….
What meeting with HR? I was JE on 2/19 and never was aware of any meeting. I too have spent my entire career with Cigna and I gotta say, I haven’t really let reality set in. I have been enjoying the mental health break and the sleep! Sweet sleep! I just now started looking, can you tell me who you are working for and are they still hiring? I have found it difficult to find something I want to do, that I am qualified for and that is Remote.. if you want to connect elsewhere let me know! And congrats!
@e2 I specifically asked this question during the post JE group meeting with HR. Thu confirmed only sales reps and really high up executives have non competes. Also, you don’t have to wait til your notification period ends to go to a competitor. You can go immediately as all your access has been shut off.
@e2 I believe you only have a non-compete agreement if you were awarded stock (long-term incentive).
Competitor? Be careful of the noncompete.
@OP congratulations
Wishing this for all affected.
Happy for you!!
Wishing you all the best!!!!
