Thread regarding Gainwell Technologies layoffs

We are paying Abacus to take our jobs!

Gainwell responsibilities are shifting to Abacus and that means Gainwell staff will be reduced to account for the shift is the staffing model change. There was a townhall Thursday where Pinky pretty much told us that some of us will be moving on because the current staffing model will reduce the number of people in the new Abacus model. I mean, if people don't get the clue by that then they deserve to stay and suffer.

@OP At some point, are states going to wake up and say "We don't want all of our US Medicaid work being done in India?"

Or even more, are they going to step up and say "Gainwell, stop subcontracting with India firms because it's a violation of state law and our state contracts?"

Doubtful. But anyway, here is what Google AI says about Abacus:

Abacus Insights, a healthcare data management company, has significant ties to India through its remote workforce in the region (Nepal/India), strategic partnerships with Indian-rooted firms like Tech Mahindra for US healthcare solutions, and key personnel like Gokul Varadharaj, who has an Indian engineering background, showcasing its global, India-connected talent and business approach. They leverage cloud tech to simplify healthcare data for payers, partnering with large players to meet regulations like CMS interoperability, using India as a talent hub for delivering complex solutions.

I only heard this by reading it here, what in the world is going on with Gainwell. I'm in shared services & Nick didn't mention anything like this, he mentioned going to multi-tenant approach - one set of code for all interChange & CEF accounts, to speed delivery & just use parms for anything state specific.

Wasn't this tried before, and didn't it end poorly?

This is not a good idea fairy, its a chaotic evil idea fairy afflicting ideas on Gainwell mgmt.

As a now retired IT professional, I can attest that back in the 80s we had presentations on new tools, including code generator programs (keep in mind, this was COBOL). This, along with the automation of system administration stuff, led me to believe that technology would take my job.
Then it became an India takeover of the engineering team I relied on as a PM, team by team. We had to work around the clock to communicate with teams overseas.
The last place it seemed like this could happen was state Medicaid, because of the contracts requiring stateside operations. But now, here we are.
Pity on Gainwell if they've been outsourcing data and operational support offshore outside of their contractual requirements. But it's up to each state to figure that out.
