PIP Terms

Have PIP terms always been discretionary or are they shortening them just to force people out faster?

Anyone know or have access to information on how the terms of a PIP are determined? I searched MyHR and couldn't find anything transparent.

I thought 90 days for improvement was standard. Someone commented on a post awhile ago that their PIP was 60 days. My coworker just got put on one and she only has 30 days to turn it around. I'm relatively new to the team but from what others have been saying and my experience working with her, it seem preposterous. She's very knowledgeable and helpful and everyone seems to like her. She shared that she's never had a single performance issue previously and consistently received exceeds expectations annual ratings.

Sounds like a classic forced out scenario and if they can do it to her, they can do it to me or anyone, so I'm trying to find any reference material available.

I left the bank knowing I was going to be PIP’d eventually. Changes in the last couple years made my role as a SBS increasingly hard. While I was at 99% of my overall goal before I left, there was (probably still is) a hyper focus on pitching merchant services to business customers. Even though my overall was on track because of merchant I knew that PIP was not far behind. Found a local bank to work for, for slightly less pay, but a lot less mental anguish on how I was going to make those goals.

@jt In MN, getting fired for incompetence will get you unemployment.

The bank wants people to think that so they don’t file. Each paid claim increases “experience rating” and increases cost.

Always file claim and appeal if denied. Make it expensive to fire you.

Plus no severance means no NDA.

I've written PIPs and implemented them at the bank. Asking for a package is the best advice. PIPs are written to get employees fired.

None of that matters. PIP means they have already given up on you and are trying to fire you without getting sued. There's really no reason to do anything in a PIP because they're just going to fire you anyway. You might as well try asking for a severance package instead of continuing the charade.

I got pipped while back. Had fun with it. Pip document says that manager is available to help. Boy did ask for help.

Several times a day, team chat questions, questions about answers. He stopped replying.

Called several times a day. Boss irritated but I reminded him that you offered help on the document.

I had some leverage and they fired him and his boss. They didn’t know what hit em.

That was several years ago and my situation unique and rare. I do recommend being an absolute pest about getting support, pip = gone 99% of time.

Putting employees on PIPs for ludicrous reasons is going to be the new trend. This cheap a-s company is heading in the wrong direction and looking for ways to avoid paying severance. If you get placed on a PIP, you're cooked here. Just treat it as a paid interview period, do the bare minimum, and apply for jobs like crazy elsewhere. The stain of the PIP will never wash off while at USB.

My peer was put on a 30 day PIP for a personality conflict and was terminated. Management is grasping at straws to avoid paying severance.

@ac In my personal experience I refused to take on the work of yet another RIF'd coworker because I was already doing 2 full time jobs so they put me on a PIP for not meeting their expectations of doing 3 full time jobs lol. It's completely unhinged.

So this is probably my last post as an employee because I'm not doing it since this is the reward for agreeing to do it "temporarily" the first time. Good riddance to this dung heap.

If you're on a PIP, you're marked for death. It's a simple way to separate you from the company without any liability to the employer because then they're terminating with cause.

If you're ever on a PIP, just start throwing your resume around and get out. Even if it's legitimate, you'll never be looked at the same way in the company again. You'll be regarded as a sc--w-up for the rest of your days.

Literally just came out here looking for this same info.

Jackwagons just did the same thing to me out of the blue. I've busted my ar-e for my team working nights and weekends for years. Guaranteed no bonus now with a PIP. I'm livid. This place has absolutely no morals left whatsoever.
