@34p lol. What do you think Martha was talking about the 700 times he mentions ‘regaining focus’ in town halls, etc?

This rumor isn’t new, anybody following along at home can clearly see MDT isn’t positioned to compete in this space and is just hemorrhaging money continuing to be in it. Literally look at any quarterly results presentation over the past couple years.

I don’t think so. I think it’s the opposite, adding additional investment into RST.

@10r
Skip Covidien. Straight back to USSurgical

Geoff would need to find a way to blame someone else for the Hugo Fiasco. He’s still trumpeting it as a great success. Spinning it out after dumping billion(s)? Of r and d would be almost like admitting he sc--wed up.

@OP Surgical would be much better off being spun into it's own Company again. Bring back Covidien.

After reading all of this, I'm thinking it just a "black hole" su-king in all surgical profits on a dream robot. and nothing to show for it. IDK not my current OU.

Looking at the org and how robotics is structured. It’s always seem to be a separate OU leeching off surgical’s once wonderful workhorse. HQ in Boston with mfg in MN would save MDT a lot of money just on the space alone. Sort of welcome the idea but wondering if Hugo is even going to capture maker share or be successful. Always seemed like a product that was running off vibes. Wonder if reality finally caught up.

@g2

Well someone already got their large bonus with this robotics scam

What’s the realistic return on investment? It’s going to take decades, centuries to break even. Tesla's Optimus robot is a better surgeon.

Weird I feel that Robotics in the Surgical OU is like a cult. You never hear about success, failures. How many Robots have been sold in the US . All I know about them is they spent billions on Hugo. But where is the ROI?. I bet there on EM radar and where they fit into the MDT puzzle

Very likely true judging by a series changes observed within Robotics.

Wow if true, this is bad news for Surgical in general worldwide.

Where are these rumors? Seriously? Water cooler? Copy machine? Internet message board? Geoff Martha’s best friend’s brother?

What a surprise.....

I wonder what other business will be spun off? Surgical? Spine?

I’d be surprised if they did, after everything we’ve sunk into it over the last decade.

But again sunk cost is sunk cost and if no one on staff can rationalize the long term value prop, then hard decisions have to made. Just wish they had done it 5 yrs ago. Imagine what we could have done in dbs or crm with those $. What acquisitions could have been chased down.

Again if this is true, this also says a lot about how much sway EM has.
