Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

When is it ever enough?

I gave up my evenings, my weekends, everything. And there's still more work waiting. I don't know how much longer I can keep this up. Something's gotta give.

First rule is to take care of yourself. Jobs come and go but your health , well you only have one body, one life. Find an outlet where you can mentally escape the work noise. Rule 2 , the company doesn’t care about you, they will squeeze and squeeze until you drop. Set your boundaries, don’t answer emails on weekends and late at night. Carve your family time and your me time and protect it.

Negotiate. Be tough, but fair. Be professional and delicate in how you handle. You need to take care of yourself, because the counter-party will take advantage of your time, energy, skills, if given the opportunity. Make an exchange - If I do X, Y, and Z, then let's exchange that for - better office, more work from home time, extra vacation days, dropping a less productive project, better incentive plan, upward mobility opportunities. Don't give the house away just to be a team player.

Put yourself and family first before this shlithole company. Use all your sick, PTO, and vacation time. Do not go the extra mile or run yourself ragid for this bank. They will not compensate you fairly and they don't give a rats azz about you. Just do the bare minimum. This company is full of empty suit mutherfockas from the CEO on down.

You must set boundaries and learn when to turn down an assignment or more work because there's not enough hours in the day.

The exchange might go something like this - hey I need you to work on XYZ project. Okay who's going to take this other project because I don't have time to do both. You have me 40 hours a week and I plan on using all of my paid time off. Your failure to plan with the appropriate amount of resources as a management team does not constitute an emergency for me.

Don’t do it - you are not more appreciated when you do more. This is confirmed with 0% pay raise.

@k7 You forgot one important element... The sniffling lackeys who complain to the boss. When doing the minimum, the lackeys do not want to be responsible for the slack. As a B6, I take on customer phone calls as secondary to my real tasks. Most lackeys who are B5s in the group. are not responsible as they think it is beneath them. When there so many B6s in the group to take on calls and some are missed, the boss takes it on us instead of making the lackeys accountable. When confronted, I just respond that my multiple tasks take priority and I question the boss if it there was a change. It makes the boss angry and the person goes back into the office. I really don't care about customer service if BOA doesn't think if the calls are important for everybody in my group to support them.

Can't let these a-holes control your life. Do the bare minimum. If it's not enough...not YOUR problem. What is your boss going to do? I can tell you one thing they will NEVER do....fire you and do the work themselves.

My biggest regret is working every weekend, even as my salary capped out and inflation chipped away at it.

OP - you owe it to yourself to put yourself first. Don't let them steal your soul. (esp. at such a cheap price)

if you need help to disconnect and let go, call the HR Help Line (800-556-6400) and navigate to the Employee Assistance Program option (EAP). You get 5 free 1:1 sessions with an independent counselor. No shame, it is really helpful!!

It is truly anonymous. I've tapped it several times for personal and work problems over the years, and it helped a lot! As a manager, I was never notified if any of my team used it. (and I know at least 2 did, because we're friends and they told me.)

It's an outside vendor through your medical insurance. The counselors can LISTEN and provide guidance to help get more balance in your life.

I was in a very similar situation working nonstop hours 24/7 for one of BTM's DRs (nearly ki-led me, seriously), and found the service extremely helpful. I finally started putting myself first and used every morning M-F to take at least one proactive step to look for another role, both internally and externally. Took me a few months, but I found a much better situation networking internally, simply by reaching out and showing interest and eagerness with other managers. Those Employee Network groups are fertile ground to meet others at all levels in different parts of the company. You don't have to formally join each group, but simply go to their events and work the room.

Please do not let this place su-k the life out of you. It is not worth it!!!

Please, please put yourself first.

This institution has a history of being fatal to even the most healthy, a long history. People jumping off the roof, or former marines dropping dead from a heart attack, and so on.

You take from it. Not they take from you. Take what you want, and leave the rest. F’em. At some point your boss becomes suspect for the fact that he/she can’t seem to keep any employees.

Watch ‘Office Space.’ Unless you’re getting paid for every efficiency you create, give the minimum and go live your life. Just say no. Not ‘no, because of…’ Just ‘no, can’t do that.’ It gets easier every time you do it. Work to live. Don’t live to work.

@OP it will never be enough. I worked for the Bank the last 17 years of my career and I made the choice to retire two years earlier than planned because one day I looked at my life and realized all my family moved away. I got divorced years ago, but had a social life UNTIL I started at this bank. Now I’m retired and by myself. Worry about you because you’re just a number to them. If you’re at the age where you can make a change, look for another job. Everyone I know, who have left the bank, have been very happy. Good luck.

Just let it go. Easy to say, MUCH harder to do.

Try to think what your future self would say to you today.

Stop giving your youth and health to this place. (or any place, for that matter)

Take back your time, do the bare minimum (like everyone else) and LIVE YOUR LIFE!!!

If you let them, the mofos at this place will keep taking, taking, taking and never let it up.

If you let it go on, it will never stop. Do whatever it takes. Fake a break down, tell them you can't take the pressure any more. that will freak them out.

You have more power over your own life than maybe you realize.

My biggest regret in life when my time comes will be that I worked to d@mn hard and gave my life to this place.

Please do not repeat my mistake. They are selfish vipers.
