@1tm it's insane how many compliance problems the Union people have identified since they've been onboarded. Maybe that explains why they are now in leadership positions. Makes you think!

@11r yes, overpaid under performing Union Managers still collecting paychecks as well as staff :(
What makes you think the person was from Minneapolis? They mentioned 5 states that make up about 15% of the country’s population. The fact that you immediately assume they are white reveals your bias.
Who is LG
@rj The Heartland, what is that the fatherland for you? All pale Nordic farmers? No diversity. You all treated others like dirt because of your Nordic skin . Never realizing how bad you really made things. Charlotte may be a lot of things but basically it is more of a financial center with talent than that wasteland called Minneapolis. I bet you were out protesting or making money on the side running a daycare at work.
What about the Union Bank disaster. Can we finally dump some of those folks first? I know of a few we can start with in Risk and Compliance roles. Start with those overpaid managerial roles first.
LG has been responsible for the introduction of a toxic, big bank, Charlotte culture that has really changed the identity and moral compass of all of RMC. Charlotte is the land of re-treads and the ones that ended up at USB, for the most part, are pretty terrible human beings. That’s not to say that other banks are better, as most of the top 4 are full of soulless people. But, there was a time when USB drew from the heartland, whether it be Ohio, Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin and later Chicago (all states with high levels of education). Those from the heartland made USB seem small even when it was growing by leaps and bounds. Enter the Charlotte people, and the growth stops, the workplace culture deteriorates, and it’s every man and woman for themselves. Thank you LG!
Risk is not a helpful enabling function. They work in siloes, have overlapping and independent processes and systems, and are overstaffed.
What about cas? They seem to be exempt from business enablement. Evps are telling flod (we are getting destroyed in first line) and slod to always say yes but cas is still managing the same as the past 4 years. I do not know how u can push something yet allow CAs to be brutal and not change. Someone should see this, right?
I think anyone is risk (2nd line or 1st line) is vulnerable right now.
@eg 💯 LG is the most toxic leader. She is the queen of gaslighting, bullying and removing anyone she perceives as a threat. Just look at the turnover of SMEs and her DRs in the past 4 years. Subject matter experts and true risk managers have left the building and been replaced with yes men and risk eliminators.
You are right to feel unstable. GK wants to grow fast and she knows the 2nd and 3rd lines of Defense have been growth killers by over-engineering risks and controls just to remain relevant. When you hear her say “client focus” over “internal focus” that basically means you guys are cooked.
The amount of workplace bullying and gaslighting in Corp Compliance is at all time highs. Leaders in Corp Compliance would rather bite the heads off their peers in Compliance than work together to find sensible solutions. Back room immunity deals with audit and turning over all decision making authority to the business lines puts a lot of stress on Compliance and there isn’t a single leader under LG who is handling it well.
@cx I think this articulates it very accurately! Unfortunately though it creates so much angst because without transparency or leaders who actually acknowledge the stress and behaviors, we all run around worried about what next shoe is dropping. Thank you for the insights though because I think that’s the same on my end - at least I hope!
I'd call my team more so overworked. We have a team of 5 but at full capacity we're 7 or 8. Everyone is doing more work, and barely receiving any personal recognition. But I suppose we're suppose to be grateful with a job and 1% merit increases. No signs of hiring for our group unfortunately. Seems like that request has been turned down from above.
Maybe you should rethink your dosage, try breaking the prozac in half.
Absolutely! It’s been feeling this way for awhile now but definitely has gotten heavier the last 2-3 weeks. Something is definitely up.
Yes!!!! The atmosphere is feeling eerily similar to around October or November of last year when leaders started turning their backs and going cold. Something is once again in the air.
And I’m not RM&C
