Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

How much did the bank pay for GK to be recognized in American Banker??

She’s a terrible leader and widely disliked for her utter disdain for the workers. “Leading” the bank but in the wrong direction, the bank is a total mess across the board with her incompetence. Such fake and purchased recognition.

@g1 the banks and finance companies pay for the recognition. Similar to advertising.

@bx We have AC to blame for the horrible management committee. He hired a bunch of id--t consultants.

@av spot on but the servant leaders you mentioned tend to be strangled in the cradle before they get higher than middle management. If they’re not laid off they leave voluntarily when they realize changing culture is an impossible task. The tone really is set at the top, which is why the Bank is in so much trouble now.

Thanks - guess I’m naive because I had no idea how fake those most powerful/top 40 lists were!

@fg

Women to watch is $500. I know a recent winner from the bank and that’s what she told me. Minneapolis has a 40 under 40 for a business publication and that one was $1k.

Ai puts the estimate at $25-60k for a piece on someone like her.

Something the board would likely consider cheap for good PR for the Street.

Oh, FFS,! Get off your damn high horse, OP. Granted she's not a "great" leader but she is at least doing something that AC never had the ba--s to do. Now RD was truly a GREAT leader and she's not in the same league. But let's not pretend that we had any good alternatives. Have you seen the managing committee lately?

@bt

Right, but if the only measure is she’s high up in a big bank, there are several bigger banks who have women in more impactful decision making roles. Just about any two-down from the big four who is a woman has more claim to being on the list than GK.

@b4 - guys I understand what you’re saying and I never said she was good at her job. But when you can make de visions that will impact millions of ppl (I’m including customers), that’s power. Whether or not she’s good at wielding that power is a different story

@av

I think that’s right. Power is earned and not taken for granted. Just because you get to make all the decisions doesn’t mean you are powerful. I wonder if our analysts believe she is powerful.

@ag it’s true and I get your point but there are differences between being powerful because you were given a job and being powerful because you are a great leader who creates a strong culture, can drive positive shareholder value, makes the company a place that people want to work, are well liked by your teams because they believe you care about their success and don’t see them as numbers. GK is not good at her job and we should not celebrate her mediocrity when she’s made a mess of this institution and our careers.

She’s a woman CEO of a major bank when there’s only a couple females at the same job. Lot of power in that. I’m surprised you’re surprised. I agree she’s not well liked but you can’t argue she is powerful.

Comparable to the payments made to Ethisphere for ethical recognition, comparable to payments to industry groups for recognition of their payments related businesses in the U.S. and Canada, comparable to what was paid to Netflix and/or Universal Pictures to be a product placement bank for Happy Gilmore 2, will be interesting to see if the cost question comes up in the analysts call this month, shareholder dollars spent in various and unusual ways.

Every industry has this type of paid “award” to make people feel better about themselves and cover up their insecurities.
