Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

What happens to RSUs?

They are hard earned for the ones that received them. It’s not much for non execs but enough to care about them.

What happens to RDUs if:

  1. You decline mobility
  2. Accept mobility but not selected for job
  3. Accept mobility, receive bit decline offer for job

Does anyone have insight? Lots of communication out there on many topics but zero on this one. It makes me feel they are going to fu-k us on RSUs based on the silence this far.

@fc you have the comprehension of a 10 year old. It’s simple;

  • If you select ‘not mobile’ you will lose all your RSU’s but will get severance.

  • if you select ‘mobile’ but end up getting let go anyway then you KEEP all your RSU’s (including unvested ones) and get severance.

  • if you select ‘mobile’ but decline to move later then you forfeit your RSU’s and will not be eligible for severance.

@fc you are slightly off. Being immobile only causes you to lose them in Calgary because it makes 'ineligible for consideration'.
If you are already at a site, not be mobile does not make you ineligible for consideration because you can be considered for roles at your site

@fc what email? Is it already out?

Move or else per the email.

If you aren't mobile, and aren't selected RSU gone
if you are mobile and selected for role but decline, RSU gone
If you are mobile and not selected keep RSU
If you are not mobile and selected (outside Calgary) keep RSU

Understandable why this is their position for those in Calgary but why threaten those already at other sites also?

Keep an eye on how the UK handles this question - they’re first out of the gate to test how this works…

Agree with @a5.
If you look closely at the RSU contract, employees will almost certainly lose any unvested RSUs.
For higher CLs that means missing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars. The company is delaying the communication because they know how employees will react, and they’re already in damage control mode...also HR wouldn't have dodged the question if we were to keep 100% of our RSU..

For crying out loud this has been answered a dozen times in basically every forum. You will get an email from Beqom or whatever next week.

You will keep RSU, it was the case in 2020 layoffs that Houston went through. We are just 5 years down the line. I woke up with that and ensured I lived way below my means

communication is expected next week. The RSU contract you signed, states they are cancelled after you are terminated… what is unclear is if they are paid out during the severance period, or cancelled on the date you walk out the door.

Eg. You are terminated July 1, 2026 (your last day) with 18 months severance. Do you get

  • Dec 2026 RSUs?
  • Dec 2027 RSUs?

Or you lose it all.

this is what it says in EMconnect, granted not very helpful:

"What happens to outstanding incentive awards when I separate from the company?

Restricted Stock Units are cancelled if you separate from the company prior to standard retirement time.

Who do I contact if I have questions?

If you have questions on your outstanding RSU awards, please open a request/inquiry via EM Connect (goto/EMConnect – Total Rewards / Incentives)."
