Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The End of Bothell

Our leader, Jeremy (Give Me Some) Legg announced a fews weeks ago while here in Bothell, that we would be moving from 7 & 8, to some other location. This was proceeded a couple months earlier with a survey asking if we would like to have an office closer to amenities and a would be willing to drive extra for it.

Now we are faced with moving to a new location , possibly 30+ minutes further away. This might be ok for some but not for those who live close by or west of Bothell.

The bigger question is: why would at&t do this? The NTC is in the same complex as 7 & 8, we own the buildings, and we have plenty of desk space (newly upgraded). The parking su-ks if you arrive after 10 am but food options are not that far away if you like to eat out every day. We recently got out of all the leased building in Bothell and Redmond and moved everyone here.

So, when they move us out to a new leased building, what happens to 7 & 8? Do they get sold or leased to another company?

In the mean time, ~2000 Bothell employees get displaced and moved to a leased (temporary) location. It is only a matter of time we are told that since we don't have a permanent office space, our jobs have moved to Dallas. Bye bye Washington employees.

They'll just eventually close it down like they have countless other centers. Either move to DFW or get bent will be your options.

@fa The three buildings, 7, 8, and 9 are owned by T under the tax payer name Cingular Wireless. They are individual parcels.

At one time (before Stanky and the big sellout to Blackrock) SBC/Cingular/AT&T was a really good place to work. The leadership cared about the people instead of the almighty $$$$. I was proud to be a part of the company. Then the leadership change happened, and coldly and methodically the axe began to fall over and over.
People don’t matter, money matters. Stanky is cold and people are simply not of value.
They worship the all might dollar Stanky and board members. Total sell outs!”

Those days are gone for a lot of companies. Very few companies can be called without going through a menu and waiting on hold to speak to a real person. If you can even find a number to call. I remember the old SWBT when the oil market crashed and Whitacre let go of contractors and had technicians being security guards to save jobs. The expectations of a CEO are different. Toss in the technology. If you live in a fibered area how many trucks do you see after a heavy rain. No Service Emergencies and working 12-15 hours a day for 7 days a week. Lot of places an installation consists of calling in and connecting to a router. Made a lot of money when the college opened up installing phones lines. In fact if you lived in a college town the vacations were blocked during that period. Scary times….

"survey choice"

A survey that only one person filled out.

Duh, it has nothing to do with making things better for the employees. It’s all about making people quit!

we would be moving from 7 & 8, to some other location.

Some other location includes plano complete with pickleball and boating amenities. Follow the cookie crumbs.

I like that you “took a survey” to express your wishes.

That’s cute.

I moved near downtown Dallas for the job and then few months later they announced new office is about 1 hour north with traffic in 2028. Morale of story - they don't care about your thoughts and feelings nor mine. They also don't care about the 2,000 Bothell employees feelings either. Connecting changes everything.

I have never had an office location that was closer. If you move closer to the office, they just move your office to another one that adds time to your commute.

Did the survey ask the question, would you like to have dedicated space for your required 5x8 in office presence? I assume that one was left out intentionally.
