Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

I made the right call

I left a few weeks ago without another job lined up, and I’ve never felt lighter. That place ate away at my confidence day after day. Some jobs aren’t worth the paycheck, especially when they make you dread waking up. I’ll figure things out, but at least I can breathe again.

I left the bank some time ago, and truthfully, it wasn’t because I wanted to. I really valued the organization and the programs it offered, but there just wasn’t any room to grow. Trying to move between teams felt like painting a target on your back, the moment you applied elsewhere, leadership knew, and that came with consequences. The expectation to give everything, your time, your energy, was constant, yet asking for balance or boundaries was seen as a problem. I’ll admit, the team environment wasn’t great, but unfortunately, there was no real path forward. The only way out was through the exit. If the bank ever called and said, “We’d love to have you back,” would I consider it? Sure, if the compensation matched the value.

That said, I genuinely enjoy where I am now. The work is fulfilling, and the change has been good for me. They say the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, but in this case, it actually was.

Sometimes leaving isn’t about running away from something bad, it’s about choosing something better. It’s easy to get comfortable in the chaos and convince yourself loyalty will eventually pay off, but loyalty without growth is just stagnation. If you’re on the fence about leaving, don’t wait for permission to value yourself. The company will replace you in a week, but your peace of mind and sense of purpose are irreplaceable.

Good job! I made a mistake by leaving a job where I was appreciated to go to BOA for the money and its reputation. I quickly found out the money was not worth it and the reputation did not live up to what I thought it was going to be. I left for a lesser paying job and have NO regrets about leaving. My peace is back!

I recently decided to retire. I was at that point myself. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I’m not stressed and exhausted anymore. I’m enjoying my life, even if I’m just running errands or going for a walk. My day and time is my own now and after 46 1/2 yrs of working, it’s a nice change and I’m so grateful.
