Thread regarding MassMutual layoffs

For those with a H-1B Visa status at mm

I hope our mm colleagues with a H1-B visa returns to the states before the EOD as"an executive order on Friday requiring US employers to pay a $100,000 application fee for the visa program. The order takes effect on September 21 at 12:01 a.m. ET."

Does this mean if you currently have one and it expires chances are you won't have employment because I doubt mm will pay that price for anyone plus income.

The United States needs to find a way to incentivize and train skilled labor needed right from our own home grown population. Can't trust the Indians especially since the President of India was recently caught holding hands with Putin and the India - Pakistan conflict could turn into Mutually Assured Destruction at any moment. Geo political forces creat too much risk. Trump should focus here and not dangle a $100K BS fee. fu-k trump

@dy
This type of job title does not make you an expert on who is and who isn't entitled. Punching down on visa holders isn't doing what you think.
Leave the blame, loss, resentment, confusion and misery with the C-suite of mm.

@an
We are here to discuss current layoffs, potential layoffs, gaps in the skills of current leadership and try to make sense of it all.
Keep your xenophobic, racist-coded remarks off my threads!!

They could fire every H1B in the company and would be fine. As someone who managed H1B’s there in the past, they are very entitled, lack skills, and are routinely dishonest. Add the fake degrees, fake resumes, bias for their own no matter the optics, months long “emergency” trips back home. MM aren’t getting the cream of the crop by any means either, Not trying to generalize this is just my experience.

If the executive order stated that those already in USA on H1B visa have to pay $100K for renewing the visa and corporations applying for any H1B visa (no matter if they are in USA already or Not) than it would make a difference in opening up jobs to Americans, But the executive order only applies to those currently outside of USA. But they will get into USA using F1, L1, J1, etc visa. And once on US soil, they can apply for H1B visa and NOT have to pay $100K.

This only affects those applying for H1B outside of the USA and those currently with H1B outside of the US. American jobs won't be given to Americans or American college graduates cause there are so many F1 visa students who will apply for those jobs since they are already in USA. And future H1Bs will be come to USA using F1 visa, O1 visa, and OPT. The executive order doesn't do much for the American college graduate or those Americans currently looking for jobs, but it does help the existing H1B visa holders who have a job and are in US (making it easier for them to transfer to other H1B jobs offered in other US companies) and it makes finding an H1B job easier for the F1 visa graduating student since less competition from foreigner directly coming from foreign countries. IN THE END, THIS EXECUTIVE ORDER DOES NOT HELP THE AMERICAN COLLEGE GRADUATE DUE TO F1 COLLEGE GRADUATING COMPETITION.

Anyone who manages an employee on a H1-B got an emergency communication this morning asking to help contact anyone out of country. One of my teammates was visiting family back in India and said they were told to try and get back to the states before Sunday.

The H1-B program has been abused for years but offshoring takes more jobs than H1-B. This is just anti-immigration politics that hurts individuals more than companies.
