Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Problem with my manager

It's either personal, or they're trying to push me to quit. Either way, it's become unbearable. I've only been here a year and a half, and I don't really understand the dynamics yet. I'd like to move to another team. Who should I talk to? Just to explore my options, if there are any.

Start posting for other positions. Document everything. You must be in a protected class within the EEOC guidelines to have a case. It also has to be documented as severe and pervasive or a lawyer won't touch it. EEOC complaints have deadlines and must be submitted prior to any lawsuit. Chances of winning aren't great and probably will hit arbitration. It's best to switch positions. All the rest is a hassle for a small pay out. Bullying by a manager has to be SEVERE. And like others have said, going to HR will only put a target on your back.

@dj If you believe that, then you're admitting the only reason you got a job is that you were white. If you're skilled and capable, an even playing field shouldn't scare you.

Quietly post for other jobs internally and externally. Don’t say anything to anyone or someone could sabotage your efforts to move to another area. You can have 5 active job postings at a time at WF. HR won’t notify your manager if you’ve been FTE for a full year but if you get an interview the hiring manager could reach out to your manager for a reference. Like others have mentioned, simply say you are looking for job growth and new opportunities. Try to post for jobs in another division of the company. My manager was horrible!! Unfortunately your situation is very common and your next manager at WF could be even worse BUT there are still a few good managers out there and you might be a lot happier in another department. Study the STAR interview process and script your answers so that your interviews go smoothly. I’ve interviewed applicants who were beat down and sad and with panel interviews it’s impossible to get hired if you aren’t full of positivity. Even if you have to fake it you need to appear to be prepared, happy and confident in interviews.

If you contact HR you’ll be on the short list for layoff and your manager could make your life worse.

Unfortunately, Wells Fargo has a lot of managers like that. The one I have now will throw anyone under the bus to save her own skin. F-ing micro managing stupid 💩 non stop. I honestly hope she gets displaced. A good manager leads, inspires and motivates. She is the opposite of all that.

I feel for you. I had a manager, who was displaced a few years ago that made my life a living he-l for about 5 years.

You don’t need anyone’s permission to look at and/or apply to internal postings. They used to preach about growing your career, unless that’s changed in the past couple of months.

To move to another team you need to apply for an open position, get interviewed, etc. Best advice is to apply looking for "career growth." Consider the possibility that the dynamics are the same everywhere at every company and you may need to adapt.

@a3 That's so true. And you'll be on the next layoff list.

First, let me ask you a few questions about your manager. Are they white, black, indian, chinese? Are they male or female? Are they young under 40 or over 40?
I'm asking this to help you. If it's an Indian manager, you don't have much of a chance moving to another team, especially if the other teams manager is also Indian. These Indian managers are all connected and only want to hire other Indians who will obey them or hire an Indian H1B visa holder or hire an Indian contractor.
Indian's usually hire Indians and most of the time only male Indians. Indian manager will never hire a white woman, unless she is slim and pretty and willing to dress up everyday and sleep with them. That's just the reality. I know most people will say, that's not true. But it really is and you know it.

Good luck. If you escalate there is a 99% chance they’ll take your managers side and call you the problem.
