Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Weekly limit token official arrived to Oracle

As MB sent a letter to his org 3 hours ago, the era of unlimited tokens is officially over in Oracle. Well, didn't last long and they already threw in a towel, starting rolling out on Monday from AI department of all places.
Everybody will be assigned a weekly limit. I guess we will see on Monday what is the limit.

I think it's a very bad sign, even Oracle lost confidence and this AI bubble is coming to an end very fast. They just now treat it as an expensive limited resource to augment productivity, no pipe dreams of full automation and some revolution. Energy cost grounded this whole thing very quickly.

@db I wouldn't count on Microsoft buying Oracle regardless of the discount. There isn't anything in Oracle's portfolio that they need and even if there was it comes with a raging dumpster fire of a company attached to it. Private equity might buy it but that would only be to break it up and sell off the pieces to get every penny out of it.

@OP Well, it's a great thing Oracle is so all in on the AI scam.

When OpenAI goes, it's likely Oracle goes with it at this point. Microsoft will likely purchase Oracle a discount.

@d4 only ChatGPT chat Instant is unlimited. All Codex models are medium/high depending on the reasoning level according to their support materials.
I burn over 100 USD on average per day on Codex on just my work and I already optimized it in obvious places.
At the moment, I generated prompt to run analysis across all my Codex threads to detect reusable flow and generate deterministic Skills and tools for them to further reduce usage , I will burn as much as I can on the highest models to do it until Monday.

The side effect will be more toxic atmosphere (from now on, I will never use my tokens to help anybody unless directly mandated by my supervisor as part of official assignment).
And automation loop will now grind to the halt as people who knows how to develop Skills and set up MCP Servers on the project will be all running over token limit on regular stuff, so nobody will be volunteering to upgrade anything for the team unless again directly mandated by management and if they give you tokens to achieve that.
I guess will see how hard is a weekly limit.

I think you are referring to if you use the advance thinking settings. The standard one should be unlimited.

@OP This is too hilarious for words. Employees are expensive, let's unload some and use AI instead. AI! MORE AI! DO EVERYTHING WITH AI, INCREASE OUTPUT!

What? We have to PAY to use it? It costs HOW much?

Side-splitting.

Been assigned 5 Account Plan creation and Customer facing presos via CodEx for FY27.
I have consumed countless tokens alone this week and I'm just one person in an org of 65 reps.

My assigned SC consumed 2K this week, so that 104K year.
Times 40 SCs is 4.1M year.
Unsustainable.

I don't think it means they lost confidence. It just got expensive to fast. They will need to get rid of more of those pesky employees that cost so much so they can run unlimited tokens again.

Maybe they finally figured out that AI isn't the solution to everything and will only apply it where it makes sense... although that is unlikely that management has actually figured something out and got it right.

It could also be that people are getting better at using AI and are giving it more complex tasks to complete which requires more resources. In either case they need to figure out where AI is useful and limit its use to those scenarios.

Arbitrarily putting limits on tokens can at the same time stop waste and also prevent real work from getting done. I guess they should have figured this out before they went all in.
