My position was eliminated 4th quarter 2024. I did get the 401K match and whatever that fancy word they call severance now, but no bonus, which apparently I could have fought for, but didn't. I was WFH because my location no longer had an office. They never asked for my equipment (laptop) back. As a former manager, I'm familiar with the guys in that department and was awaiting an email or letter but none came. Today, over a year later, I get an email from some poor guy "tasked" to retrieve my equipment, asking me for my address so they can send the box. That laptop is already past the three-year mark of when people upgrade anyway. Yes, I still have it, sitting in a closet, and I know it's petty to not cooperate, but I feel petty. Anyone else been asked for it after a year gone?

What a tool…
They want me a box in which pringles come (not joking) to send my Dell monitor back. I did not and waited for 4 months more until they sent me a sturdier box.
@jy yes that would be the best option. Add some more to the sh-tshow in BNY
Something similar happened to me. When I was relieved of my position at BNY, my department leadership took my BNY issued technology.
About 6-8 weeks after I was removed from the building, BNY IT sent an empty box to return my tech. Curious, I asked a former co-worker, who was still employed in my former department, if they knew where my laptop was? He said department leadership had placed it on top of a file cabinet and that was where it lived.
All I'm saying is, if you said you handed these materials to BNY leadership... that will be good enough. There is no chain of custody with their corporate tech.
When I left the dump, I turned in my laptop and the rest of my equipment on my last day. My manager was at a different location, so I handed it to somebody else in the same reporting line.
About a month later, I get a box in the mail asking me to return everything.
That place is just a dumpster fire.
Tell them you already returned it, and they misplaced it
Tell them you sent it back a year ago. Tell them they must’ve misplaced it.
Take a dump in the box
Open the base of the laptop, remove the RAM chip(s) and re-sell those chips. Return laptop or though it out after you remove the RAM.
The Dell's BNY have are easy to open.
What is the abandoned property rule in your state? If you didnt follow the rules, return it.
@OP here. Not sure that the downvoted replies understood the post. Of course, this action should have happened when I was offboarded 15 months ago. That was the point. I just found it both amusing and ridiculous that they would expend wasteful energy on something so trivial after so much time had passed.
@cz laptop is old and obsolete just toss it in the recycle
It sounds like you were hoping to keep the laptop LOL! 🤔
As a mgr myself, why would you think you’d get an email about it? They should have done the off boarding and submitted to have the boxes sent as you know but you also know it has to be returned since its not yours . Lets stop acting d-mb it’s embarrassing
the 401k matches have a 3 yr vest period tho
A year is too long. Can they offer you significant rent for storing it for a year? Have then ask for it in writing, and then request back rent of $100 per month of storage fee, in goodwill.
