Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Quitting next week finally

When you give 2 week notice and they let you go immediately, do they pay you those 2 weeks>?

What about unused PTO?

When you give notice they can release you without anything. Two weeks notice is a custom but they aren’t obligated

My Shawshank Redemption. After 10 years as an Auto PD Field Appraiser w/ Allstate, I made a choice to purse a completely new career outside of claims vs continuing the perpetual toxicity that most adjusters wollowed in day after day but did nothing to about it. I scheduled PTO and went through new hire training w/ my current employer. Truthfully, I wasn't sure if I was going to follow through on taking the new job, however, when I opened my laptop and saw all the high severity/complex claims held for my return, I was absolutely certain why I pursued a new career. I called my manager right then and gave my notice. I was asked how long they had me. I said I was only interested in wrapping things up like reconciling my expense report/corporate card, returning calls, emails, company car, equipment,.etc....They begged me to stay. I spoke to my Director that day and scheduled an virtual Hr meeting the following day. That following day, before my HR meeting, it was evident they turned off my email and access to everything. Hr told me that my employment was ending effective immediately and I would be receiving a final paycheck, including payment for all remaining accrued PTO. At that point I asked how they expected the computer, monitor, printer, field checks, car, phone and all the other stuff including customer PPI to grow legs and walk out of My HOUSE since I was no longer an employee...that conversation was Awesome. They essentially abandoned all of their personal property on My property. I told them they did not have permission to come onto my property. They were pi---d. They threatened to pursue me for theft. I called my friends in law enforcement who said my abandonment argument and property rights would prevent them from pursuing me but, naturally, they encouraged me to "do the right thing" which I was always going to do. I had following discussions with Allstate regarding the same. They refused to pay me to pack up their gear. My manager(who I like) got involved and sent a certified letter which I refused. I waited another few days and called Allstate to tell them to check the weather report (rain) because all of their gear was sitting on the curb in front of my house and the keys to their car were in the cupholder. My manager called and asked if I would please put all the gear in the car to which I agreed with the understanding that the car keys would remain in the cup holder of the unlocked car. I video clipped all of it. The car disappeared a few days later and I never heard another word........this is the best thing I've ever done career wise.....instead of bi--hing about my situation I did something about it. I love my new job.... I'm back to making what I did at Allstate but the benefits are better, I have way more time off, I'm union protected, but most of all, I have no stress.

For some low performer like you they’ll probably give you the BOOT right then and there. You’ll get paid your $30 for your unused PTO, don’t you worry. Maybe you can use it to buy big boy pants so you can HANDLE #winning.

@cj

This is also a completely valid strategy. If you want to be extra spicy, use your PTO while starting at the new gig. Get double paid.

Don't give them a notice. Like these moral sewers give us notice about anything before shi-tting on us.

Handle your PTO as you see best and then tell them to pi-s off on what is to be your last day.

Show this company zero consideration as they don't give any to us.

I quit to go to Progressive. I was let go immediately and paid unused PTO. If you are retiring or not going to a competitor it is possible that they will pay you, not certain.

They will not pay you for your 2 week notice - they’ll have to pay you for your unused PTO as you’ve earned that, but as you’re likely an “at-will” employee, expect them to take your notice as you’re quitting effective that day and not pay you for the notice.

It su-ks, but means you shouldn’t give them any notice. Or schedule your PTO for the week after your last day, if you want to be nice.

They should as you could technically file for unemployment as they dismissed you. Unused PTO should be paid out because of CA rules but varies by state so they might not.

At the very least, you are owed the notice period. Make sure to email HR to clarify your exit.
