Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Our IP su-ks

The Barbie bump didn’t last long and MOTU isn’t seeing a bump at. Maybe the Barney movie will do it…..

How are shareholders not demanding a change?

@3ce, you are so misinformed. Lego had a record year last year and is trending to do so for 2026.
Just reiterates how poorly Mattel has been mismanaged!

@17t What director? I want to follow him to the new place. Relying on IP only is a slow death. This generation doesn’t care about anything that’s not in front of their faces.

A few years ago, when El Segundo was trying to resurrect the Barney Brand, the Design Director solicited toy ideas for new products. Signs were posted in the HTC for new play pattern ideas. There was very limited responses. When asked, the Design Director said the best ideas were from the vandalism written on the posters.! True story. Imagine a Barney product that could lick its’ own a$$! Now that is a winner.

My bet is that Mattel theme park will be more like an elementary school carnival than a Universal Theme park. Brand stewardship like what happened at Barbie Dreamfest will surface again with the theme parks. Just seems inevitable the way Mattel operates!

Its not movies, its theme parks! I have already booked my tickets for the Mattel Adventure Park. The Barbie Beach House attraction is going to rock! Some company called Mischief is going run it. I hear they really engage with their audience and that Mattel puts their trust in them to drive the Barbie brand. Look out Glendale, here I come!

hold your horses. we only talk negatively about mattel in here, no bright side to anything. we're all miserable and ungrateful, and the only solution is to complain about it. carry on

If anything Mattel should be lauded for being a good steward of their IP; Lord knows it could be much worse off- just look at how Disney ran Star Wars into the ground. Barbie has remained relevant for decades, how many other toy properties can say that?

Is anyone's IP doing well? The Mouse? The Jedi? The Superheroes? Preschool? Dolls? Action Figures?

Pretty much every category for movies and toys are not doing great. Well, other than building system.

Did Mattel buying stock today keep it from falling into 13$ territory.

As an employee, was tired of hearing for more than a decade, “ movies are coming “. Sick and tired of the hubris without delivering a good movie product. The truth was the movies themselves are good, but the fallacy was movies never increased top line revenue or bottom line profitability. They are just bright shining hype! That is fact. Mattel is stuck at 5.4 billion in top line revenue , and has been for literally two decades. Mattel is also stuck with a guy at the top with an unpronounceable name. Anyone remember the “10x15 Plan”?? That meant 10 billion in top line revenue by 2015. Did NOT happen. The movies have NOT moved the revenue needs upward either.

I just saw a photo of the so called HeMan action figure and it looks like Stevie Wonder designed it and sent it to Ray Charles in China to manufacture it. It's looks like it's based of an older design look from New Adventures? I can't believe that the incompetent can't draw or design a decent looking sword designers actually went with separately lowballed molded hair.
HeMans head looks like it's just stuck on a loaf of sour dough bread. What's in the backpack, batteries so his sword lights up? How could they even afford a figure with electronics?
Can't wait to see Skeletor..........
