Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

After tomorrow, what happens for remaining employees?

Are we safe for a month? Two months? The rest of the year?

I’ll admit that I have been very unmotivated to do any work the last few weeks. The rest of my year will probably be the same if I make past tomorrow.

@cs

Brilliant insight but no. Spite is a powerful motivator and I'll remain actively disengaged until my severance rolls in.

So sorry that you don't like it. Find a way to deal. 😉

@d3 DC is doing everything he can to drive Cigna into the ground. I wonder what will be the next stupid acquisition, merger, or rebranding that will cost millions to integrate, only to discover that nobody wants to buy the product? Board members: "Hey, that was a d-mb move DC, so lay off some more employees. BTW, here's another ten million dollar bonus for you."

@ct How is the business model changing?

What happens is we are left holding the bag which means more work, less happiness but "be thankful you have a job" BS.

My cubical neighbor is in IT and said he knew they would be hit hard. He asked if I had gotten an "odd early email". His team is already about as skinny as it can get with deadlines being missed because they don't have enough people. As part of sales, we're a little insulated from this but I'll never let down my guard. The industry is going through vast changes and the whole business model will be evolving. How we all fit it...who's to know?

if you're unmotivated to work find a new job... not worth working somewhere that you're miserable?

The apathy and survivor guilt kicks in hard. I have some friends that got 9am invites this morning, so it's unfortunate. What's the point of continuing to try and be a high performer? We're just a number on a sheet to them.

@c5

Even a quieter cycle isn't going to be layoff-free, just smaller scale.

This is the new normal. Adjust accordingly.

Yes, at a town hall. The replay is likely still available on the intranet.

@c5 when did Evanko say this? town hall?

My assumption just like similar JE cycles there will be a few month quiet cycle and then JEs will start to happen again. When Evanko said at the town hall that he expected Cigna to end 2026 with significantly less FTEs I’m sure he meant more than 2000
