Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Sad state of affairs

Whenever we hear someone is leaving the firm, the first question is always “leaving on their own?” It is not right that our brains have been trained to think this way.

The impact of poor mental health from a toxic workplace can last a very long time.

@c0 I can confirm I left on my own terms recently. Am I a long tenured employee: yes. Did I receive a partially meets in one category at last year end: yes. Was I put on a bogus PIP with a termination with cause clause through early 2026: yes. Did I leave on my terms: most definitely. I did not wait to be humiliated with a termination, I resigned and left with my dignity intact. We are all empowered to leave on our terms. We do not have to be a willing participant in what has clearly become a cruel sla-ghtering of long term loyal employees by toxic leadership.

@c0

I've known a few, and I will be one in a few months; but I have seen more than my fair share of fellow employees get yanked out the door during my 40+ years.

@c0 I actually retired in 2021. Was only 58 but had had enough of the joint so decided I was in a good enough financial position so gave my notice !

@b1+1k4cs1d25 I say this all the time. I haven’t seen anyone actually retire on their own terms since at least 2014.

I left 3 years ago but I still got plenty of the “did you get shown the door?” questions. To be honest though I did feel I was getting forced out hence my drive to look elsewhere. Glad I found something before things really got bad here.

I remember when good BNYM people and long sericed veterans were celebrated and praised. When was the last time anyone saw a real retirement party here? When was the last time team lunches were held to recognize service anniversaries? With this sociopathic regime, anyone here 20 or 30 years is given a bad performance review and chased off into the wilderness.
This place is ugly, mean and abrasive.

I've seen many people "leave" over the years. 9 times out of ten if you have to question if it was voluntary, it was not.

This place can really take a toll on your mental state after a while. We should all be actively looking for something else.
