Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Tech All Team - DT

It’s no surprise that in his first team wide comments since his disastrous all-teams, that he fell flat on his face again. From the cringy and unnecessary SNKRS comment to rolling out the same exact leadership structure that has accomplished zero over the last 18 months.

Tech deserves better than this clown. The guy is so out of touch. Meanwhile his whole org is ready for him to start talking about all the start-ups he’s worked at and actually accomplish something at scale.

So I believe he worked for Honey, the scammy social media Mr Beast influencer company. YTers Coffeezila, LegalEagle and others all exposed this and it was bad.

for context, PayPal acquired Honey. So not sure why DT keeps saying he worked at PayPal; he was part of an acquisition.

@c8 I believe that would be the shameless VPs trying to take credit for their peoples work. When you don’t understand it yourself, how are you supposed to explain it to business partners?

More than half of Nike thinks that Tech teams don’t deliver anything. Who is at fault for that?

I've been in Tech here for years. DT WHO?

Not worth learning their names lately...

That’s a good point. Elon left PayPal and you know how that story ends. This guy leaves and lands at a non tech company and has already overstayed his welcome. Anyone do a background check on this guy? Bernie Madoff looked the part. I smell fraud.

He came from PayPal. Have you guys not seen the PayPal stock? It’s down 80% in the last five years.

Absolutely shameful display. Between this and the all team meeting he scheduled right after RA announced the layoffs, DT is loudly and publicly confirming that he's nothing more than a sad sociopath.

Also, for anyone wondering what was said about SNKRS today the post from @as is on the money

@aq Some sarcastic comment about how we're still investing in SNKRs even though he heard some noise about it

@OP can I get an amen? I had heard from a friend that worked with him in the past that he was an absolute sociopath. Who in gods name hired this guy? What a creep. Pretty sure I remember his character in some of our matter of respect training.

Let me tell you how a real leader (see the no quotes?) actually leads…. (well OK a couple of things).

  1. They come to the table with some past success and industry specific knowledge.
  2. They understand the current company environment.
  3. They ask many questions.
  4. They have an idea, a direction, a philosophy that guides strategy. Things like “we are here to enable the Business and the only way to enable them is to TALK TO THEM about what they need, what their pain points are, let them vent a little about technology (don’t we all do that? darn computers sometimes).
  5. There is a lot more but saving the very best for last…. TALK TO YOUR TEAM… at every turn.. learn from them… what do they see as pain points? what are their ideas for improving? make sure they are connected with the business and having regular, candid communication on improving.

So many of our “leaders” have decided they know what’s best for the business without even talking to them. OR they gaslight their own team by talking to the business without the team there.

What is a REAL, PRODUCTIVE, USEFUL all hands? When Tech and the Business work together and establish common goals.

Not Tech going off and doing it’s own thing and not the Business complaining (even if it’s accurate sometimes) about how Tech isn’t helping them.

This fundamental disconnect is why this board is sometimes spanned by “Tech is lame” posts.
