Demand Letter?

Curious if anyone has written a demand letter to Target after being let go to demand payment/severance. Obviously don’t want to go into litigation against Target…

Sounds like it was your choice to leave. Target offered you the option to return to the office, and you elected not to. If they owed you a severance, it would have been offered as part of the term process. Targets legal team is very good at keeping their liability to a minimum, if anything, they tend to over-pay on terms to avoid potential litigation. Again, you CHOSE to not return, so you were not coded as termed but as resigning.

@cb a role that’s eliminated due to relocation is not the same as being fired with cause, so unless you think you were targeted or discriminated against, the most you’ll likely receive is unemployment insurance.

I would still talk to a lawyer in your state to be certain, but severance for role elimination due to relocation is usually something to negotiate as part of an employment contract.

Most employment is at-will, which means there’s very little recourse in these matters.

@aj if target lets me go for an unjustified reason, and I’ve worked there for ten years, can I send a demand letter from a lawyer for a proper severance?

Target would have paid you what was owed at termination. Not sure what else you think they should be paying you..
