Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Job market hellscape

The grass is always greener on the other side. Those of you still employed at this soul succubus better enjoy the paycheck while it comes because this job market is a dumpster fire from he-l. This is not the market of 5 years ago. If you haven’t been in it, you have no idea what you’re up against at the moment.

@ay You have a very poor understanding of what banks do if you think "branches" are the bulk of what makes up the banking industry. The "online" you refer to does not simply happen in some magical cyberspace that sustains itself. There are MANY other points to be made about your ignorance but I don't have the time.

The job market is what it is. Keep applying eventually will land something better. People are still finding jobs regardless. This place is toast so everyone is planning to jump to the next best thing. Wishing us all good luck.

There’s been a shift from an ‘Employee’ job market back to an ‘Employer’ job market. Employers have everyone by the ba--s right now!!! Once it shifts places like USB will lose a ton of talent.

Banking is kaput. All online now and of you're not in branch location your job will be surplused before Q3. No one needs banks except poor people with no money. Simply as this

@a9 I can’t imagine the person who posted the original comment would out themselves with their role. I do k own of someone who who was laid off as a project manager and it’s been 7 months and still no work. Employers are being insanely picky right now and they are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of applicants. I feel really bad for anyone who got sh-t on by this company and then forced into the market over the last couple years. It could be any of us in dire straights.

@a7 Yep, it’s not just tech. The entire hiring market is broken across job types. I’m sick just wondering if I’ll be able to pay my mortgage in a few months. From one nightmare at US Bank to the next.

On posts like this it would be helpful to know what kind of role you're in. The market might be fine for certain types of positions and horrendous of other roles. If you're in any type of role that's being offshored or impacted significantly by AI, yes I imagine the job market is bad now. That includes many types of Tech roles.

I wouldn’t want to be looking for a tech job of any kind right now. This market is brutal. Seeing lots of people on LinkedIn still looking after 12 months. I think other areas of banking are slightly better, but not much

I think it causes more dissatisfaction because people are just stressed and on edge no matter what.
