Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

People getting fired out of RIF time

Upset and sad to hear that an exceptionnally competant colleague was told today was their last day.
Where is illumina going depleting itself of its talent.
It s sad to see such a previously notorious company falling into pieces.

@37p the last 2 people running AMEA have no genomics background, they have destroyed this region, centuries of experience gone and replaced by ex GE robots with questionable morals. This is the end for Illumina, the new people don't understand the business and have exited all senior people that do. Its not selling widgets at Illumina, its selling complex solutions for life science. It won't take long for competitors to hire them all and they will be motivated to destroy the genomics market and diminish their market share.

There was a mini RIF in Australia this week, GM gone and senior sales leaders gone. New head of region wants roles based in Singapore

@ax
I just wanted to explain that I did not think it was the first time illumina was getting rid of a competant person. I believe that the vast majority of people in RIF is conpetant.
It just made me sad on that day and I wanted to share it.
It also feels like lays off is being done at low base level all.the time. Which is really sh-t.

@a4 it was not performance based and seems to be more about regrouping a certain function in a certain part of the world.
Don t want to share more as I don t want to cause trouble to the person.

There is nothing like a "performance-based" layoff. Generally, those who work hard and manipulate things less get laid off first.

A competent colleague being fired is nothing new even though his/her performance at work is exceptionally good.

We surely believe in performance based assessment but based on what performance, "work or the art of making your boss happy".

People who know next to nothing are being fast track promoted through the ranks just for making his/her superior happy.

So all depend on the management righteousness to act righteously to give due recognition to true work performance.

Anyway, all sites face the same scenario to certain extent; however a department at Singapore operation site is doing it so balantly.
