Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Exhausted and broken and safe, for now.

I'm in my mid-30s, at around L9-L11 level, working in the field (sales/operations). Throughout my career, I've mostly received 3s and 4s on performance reviews and have relocated a few times for the company. I'm recently married and planning to start a family soon.

With the recent news of excellent people leaving this week amid the restructuring, I'm really worried. Is it still realistic to feel secure raising a family here at PepsiCo long-term, without constant fear of instability?

Do you trust the company's direction right now? I'm scared and seriously thinking it's time to start exploring backup plans.

Any advice or similar experiences from others in the field?

I have no trust in this company at all. I witnessed the departure of some great people this week. We are all doomed.

The sacrifice of those who came before us ultimately gives nothing. There are fewer opportunities than ever before. Make them come to you. The country is at a low point for execution, and they’re not looking for top performers anymore. As everyone is saying, give only the minimum and tell people what they want to hear!

This creates a group of people who simply don't want to grow in the company. Become a L5 make your $70-80k and stay out of the way.

Yeah don't think anything will be safe, more cuts to come

Read the press release this is just the start of at least a year long process. Next steps GTM commercial sales marketing and supply chain

If earnings don't improve 2026 won't be the end either

I’m safe. Although safe isn’t how I’m feeling right now, I’m pis_ed. I waited Monday-Friday waiting on a call to find out if I was going to be fired because the company has been mismanaged. Then they have the nerve to tell me I’m safe. I’m embarrassed to say how many of these I’ve been through and still put up with it. This one has been the worst handled in my opinion. They have zero understanding of the damage they’ve done, my commitment level has dropped from a 10 to a 5. The org health survey should ask how embarrassed are you working for PepsiCo? I’ll do what I need to do to keep my job and no more. DONE!

Well I made it 5 rounds. A lot of people didn’t and that’s a terrible spot to be in during the holidays. There’s another one right around the corner , don’t know when. Get yourself ready professionally and financially. One best Pepsi on its way

As someone that has been around over 25 years, no one is safe these days. More sales/supply chain support role for PFNA are moving to Mexico counterparts because they are cheaper. Some have always made 4s on reviews and still had their role taken away. This is not tje same company as it was 10- 15 years ago. But the overall job market is also volitile and people with master degrees and years of experience are struggling to get hired anywhere. I say ride it out (and upskill on Pepsicos dime while you can) because you cannot hedge your bets on what is elsewhere especially right now.

Had the good fortune of completing a close to 40 year career with the company. Wasn't quite ready to retire but VRP came along and I took the option last year.

That said, when the change was made years ago to GPID from personal IDs, it became a lot easier to eliminate a number from the system as opposed to a person. The days of the leadership of Craig Weatherup, Roger Enrico, Steve Reinemund, Al Carey, and others of the same wiring are long gone.

I was never very high up in the company, but had the honor to meet most of those men and you knew you mattered when you spoke with them. It was a conversation, not a transaction.

I commend you for doing a job well enough to merit 3s & 4s in your reviews. That speaks more about your character than it does anything. Be true to your character and continue to seek to be great at what you do for your job, understanding it is likely now just a job and not a career. More importantly, understand the investment with your spouse and future family are exponentially more important than the score that lands on your performance review.

Be a great asset to the company while understanding the longer you work there, the more likely you could be to make the list of people on "the list". Wishing you well in all you do.

When you have to be told you’re safe, what does that tell you. If you can go, go.

Soft drink sales will continue to decline as consumers strive to be healthier. Junk food is being removed from snap benefits state by state. AI will also replace many jobs so yes start looking.

Hi - try not to overthink it. A lot of posts on this site and soon and gloom. I have worked for 4 large companies over 35 years . PepsiCo is really no different to other . All companies go through ups and downs - this will all settle down eventually.but keep developing your “ transferable skills “ that you can take with you to another role outside .If I were you, I would hang in there for now . Best wishes

Yes look elsewhere. PepsiCo used to be a place of stability and a solid career. They would even tell you they acknowledged not giving a market wage increase however tout job security unlike automotive. Now wages increases are far worse than market and job security is non existent.

I think if you were somewhere else, you might worry less about layoffs. Performance reviews might mean very little, whe management looks around for cheaper help. No cost in starting to look elsewhere, as what you have there is certainly unstable. Someone else must be selling flavored sugar water..
