Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Things I don't want to hear ever again

"Do more with less" and "we're all in this together." I don't want to hear any pep talk. None of us are here to clean up leadership's mess, only to be dismissed with a generic email. I'm staying until they show me the door. For now, it's about what I take from this job, not what they squeeze out of me.

@OP You missed "our staff are our most valuable commodity"

"Commodity" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there

This is the new normal for work. You are just a desperate commodity, despite all the hard work you have put in including college, to learn your skill. Don’t have kids so that others don’t have to go through 40 yrs of employment he-l in the future.

You can down vote the stuff you don't want to hear all day long. It doesn't mean what you down voted isn't true. Get a clue, the world is changing fast and if you don't figure this out you will be left behind. No one expects you to like this, they actually don't care either way. Cold hard facts.

@av

Unfortunately, the AI can potentially do it faster. As soon as they get accuracy to wherever they feel it needs to be, you will see a sea change of unemployment. You can't get rid of everyone, but I am darn sure they have plans for productivity improvements via more AI and less staff.

If you need the job you might want to be careful about your attitude towards your job. You may not like the new work arrangements but they are here to stay. You are being evaluated in a lot of ways you won't see. The term transactional has popped up a lot on this site and it is a good analogy. You provide work and they provide pay. You need to be careful to make sure the work you provide is what they want to pay for or you may be out. The quality and quantity needs to be better than or equal to AIs output for your job.

You work at a company. It is not your family. It just feels more real now that most companies have begun the process of adopting AI which means layoffs. If you believe some of these AI youtube videos, companies are now starting with the premise of, can I do this job with AI or some combination of human/AI ? Believe it or not. We have now begun the rotation into AI with the possibility of over-rotation into AI.

It's happening everywhere. Layoffs are constantly happening and they want people to keep on working as if everything is normal.

The OP's sentiment is the reality for most people. The reasons are different, but the outcome is the same. Employees feel wronged. Was there any communication after the layoffs to the remaining employees? None. The companies do not care. Business as usual.
