Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

IF YOU GOT LAID OFF PLEASE REPLY

Soooo there has obviously been a huge amount of layoffs happening.

Please— if you have gotten laid off today or if anyone knows of anyone that got laid off can you reply the department name?

Also— does anyone know of how many people they are laying off and/or if they are going to be doing this the next couple of days?

Praying we are all safe.

@a1 yes, this company has been destroyed by those up in Chicago. Love to see control go back to Texas I used to be proud to say I worked for HCSC but now I am flat out embarrassed to say it. 😔

The fact they laid off top contributors with no real rhyme or reason. Randomly. Right before a very busy season.

Why the he-l should we work at all at this point?

Our team manager got laid off today. No rhyme or reason. It's tough because we are slammed with work right now and this is going to really hurt our team.

@c2 the big boys and gals at the top need a swift kick to the curb. They have destroyed this company

@dk their only strategy is getting board seats and more money for themselves- all while making garbage business decisions.

Did anyone in Corp Strategy get let go or did they get better titles and continue to add people? What a joke of fiefdom building that is destroying value

Cigna colleague here, we were told, just yesterday, that it’d be around 500 people total (hcsc & cigna conveyed) over a three day span, with majority of them being told yesterday (9/24). Makes me sick how little these big corporations think of us all.

We’re having another wave of RIF’s today as well I heard. :(

Hoping everyone that wants to stay, gets too. And those let go, find the job of their dreams that treats them like a human and not a number!!

Speaking as someone who has been close to Corp Strategy the last couple of years:

  1. The Cigna business was not estimated to make HCSC any money for close to 5 years. There’s a reason all the goals are separated between HCSC and HealthSpring.

  2. All HealthSpring did was broaden HCSC’s foot print to go public before long as a national player. We haven’t been successful in second blue bid and we are going to get bled out in the ACA space. We had to try to make up membership just to stay even.

  3. The culture has officially shifted after today and the way things have gone down. Zero trust in this executive leadership team. Maurice, Opella, Arun, Mike, Manika all need to be shown the door.

  4. A lot of the current Management team (EMG Level and up) will be lucky to survive the year.

Short answer, no logic to it. Stakeholder Experience

1) HCSC gave employees a big bonus this spring (approximately 20% higher than usual)
2) a few weeks later the CIGNA medicare merger happened
3) budget/funding for internal projects slowed down even further (it was already slowing in the beginning of the year)
4) Rifs happen today

HCSC core business seems to be doing well. Merger isn't praised any longer, and their are rumblings that the merger is costing hcsc money. Hcsc has been quiet regarding the budget of the company.

With all of the above facts, I think the C-suite messed up and don't want to say the merger was a bust and now it's causing riffs.

@OP why not layoff the people that got us into the financial mess? Or have them take a pay cut?!

Also HR is not your friend. None of this impacts their division

@a6 Paul’s was stuck with layoffs due to the ACA implementation.

Paula was CEO in 2016 when we had those major layoffs.

@a2 if he would take a massive pay cut since he makes an absurd amount anyway, some jobs would be safe! or if they wouldn't have bought a company anyone could have told them would only cost money, everyone else would be safe! if we still had Paula as CEO, this probably wouldn't happen either!
