Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Depressing day

Starting tomorrow at 8:00 AM ET, I will be executing a significant organizational restructuring involving a 20% headcount reduction across our team of 400. Following directives to stack-rank based on organizational impact, I am responsible for conducting the separation calls for approximately 80 personnel, many of whom are close peers and long-time collaborators. This transition comes at a critical juncture, as my org is currently managing a large volume of high-vis projects while operating at maximum capacity. Ugh. Such is life. I fought with myself long and hard before coming here to post this but felt the need to further validate what’s going down. :( good luck to all you brave souls, I wish you all nothing but the best

We'll find out tomorrow if it's true or not.

@as I’m not sure what you expect. My coworkers are just that. Not friends. I didn’t chose them, we just happened to work together. When that work is over, so is the relationship. Why are you expecting more?

I seriously have a hard time believing this original post. Almost all my managers I have had at Oracle have exhibited Sociopath traits.

This is similar to what happened when I was laid off at a different company I worked for. I found out later I was in the first round of layoffs. People who were being laid off got a 10-minute meeting invite held in a conference room on a different floor than the main group worked on. They spaced the meeting times out so you would not accidently see others entering or exiting the conference room when you entered or exited. This was pretty sneaky if you ask me. When it was time for my meeting, I went into the meeting knowing it wasn't going to be good news. My boss said hello as I entered the conference room and motioned for me to have a set. He went right into the script HR probably gave him. He said unfortunately I was going to be laid off in 60 days. He then handed me a document and told me to read it. It was the warn statement which they have to provide you by law. It states that you will be laid off in 60 days and notes the exact date. My boss then told me I would also receive an email from HR, within an hour regarding unemployment benefits. Boss then concluded the meeting saying sorry for the bad news and wished me all the best finding a new job. I went back to my desk and didn't tell anyone I received a layoff notice. Before the day was over, I could sense people already knew since there was uneasiness among them. The email I received from HR stated I would only receive unemployment benefits if I agreed to sign and return the attached form stating I would not try suing the company for age discrimination. For the next 60 days I had limited work to do since my work had been mostly resigned. I spent the next 60 days updating my resume and applying to jobs. None of my co-workers approached me during the 60 days to mention they heard I was being laid off. The 60 days approaches pretty fast. I felt I handed it well. I walked out of the office for my last time on the 60 th day. No one including my boss said Goodbye and good luck. I handed the security guy my badge and walked to my car and drove home. I never received a call or email from any of my coworkers except for one.
Several months later I received an email from a former coworker, The person said a second round of layoffs was about to occur because leadership sent out an email to announce it. My former coworker said the number of layoffs was announced in the email sent by leadership. Since it was a large number of layoffs that were to occur my former coworker said everyone was out to protecting themselves only. Former coworker said a lot of people started to badmouth and vent about others in the group hoping they would look better and avoid being laid off themselves.

I agree with the OP. Soon after you leave your office for the last time your former coworkers have forgotten about you

@ad no the calls are quick. Like 2-5 minutes. And from zoom you just dial someone up like a telephone.

@ad
So fake news, it's all good then!

@aa it's also possible they are group calls.

@ad what makes you think that they are 1:1? It could be far less calls depending on how the people are grouped. It is not a discussion, they are just being read a short HR prepared statement. The real details will be in the other sources they will be informed about.

People posting here are not being truthful. Admit it, you all are hoping people you compete against or don't like, get hit with a layoff notice. You will totally forget about the person 15 seconds the day they walk out the door for the last time.

I am thanking my lucky stars that I got cut last Sept after 28 years. Took a while but eventually found an equivalent paying job. Good luck everyone, it’s a brutally cold job market.

A year away from retirement, I wish they had offered early retirement packages. I’m sure I would’ve volunteered for some health coverage or financial considerations in that regard.

@a1 depends on org and level. In Sept I got a 1:1 zoom with an adjacent manager from my org. my leadership chain had no idea what was happening because they were getting 1:1s later that day.

when I asked about my directs, I got the runaround. an hour later, they received emails telling them they were rif'd.

First honest post from management. You deserve to continue leading the team.

I have seen other so called leaders who have thrived mostly due psychopathic tendencies and using mafia like tactics to manipulate and take advantage of unfortunate circumstances that we find ourselves in life.

A person I know who was part of the LAD layoff received a slack from his manager’s manager (who is a VP). The manager found out about an hour before his employee was notified. No prior meetings were scheduled in advance.

Will OCI be impacted too?

@OP are you supposed to be sending out the meeting invites today or tommorow morning

Sorry to hear that. It takes a toll on both sides and I know the effect is long term and more devastating for the person impacted. But delivering the message where you had no say in it is hard too especially when its people whom you have had long work relationships with. I don't know if my role is safe or if my org is safe either. Given that I have not heard from HR yet, anything could happen.
