Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Extracting my past owed pay increases

For the past year I’ve done such a little amount of work it’s comical. Maybe an hour or two per day. I call into meetings and then play on my phone. I ignore pretty much everything exec management tells us and then cash the paycheck. I’ll continue this until I get canned and if not, I’ll quit once I can’t do this anymore. Two things they’ll not get from me anymore are effort productivity. I’ll quit before I have to do any actual work that would benefit the company. I figure I’ve clawed back about 90k of free money so far from Oracle. Take care of yourself.

This arrogant, lazy little nimrod @OP and all those on this board who upvote his comments are the same pathetic so-called "employees" we've all seen throughout our careers - a bunch of useless do-nothings who only polish Powerpoints, eat all day long, and sit in endless meetings. These clods should be terminated for cause, not RIF'd. No business needs them.

@aa hahahahagagagaga. In 3 months your work won’t matter to anyone. I doubt anyone even knows you’re there. Hahahahha

@OP You're not the only one - I speak with trusted coworkers all the time and morale could not be any lower than it is - the only thing lower is productivity. I'd say most people are working 3 - 5 hours per week, although they probably spend at least that much time on useless internal meetings, along with tracking time in systems that don't work and nobody cares about. Just like the OP, I (along with many) are at the end of our careers, so looking for new skills, new opportunities, etc., just isn't in the cards - it's time to rest and relax. To those that have already been let go and and not quite ready for retirement, I'm sorry that this company has put you through this - I truly am. I wish you the best and hope that you land safely on your feet soon.

@a6

Let me explain something to you, nice and simple so you understand.

We all hired in under a set of mutual requirements. The worker will do a, b, and c, and in exchange the organization will provide x, y, and x. Just like a pizza place offering a specific item for a set price or a lawn mowing company quoting a specific job. Both parties like all the terms and decide to move forward.

Things remain static on both sides for a while, but then Oracle unilaterally changes the terms to be more favorable to them. Always more favorable to them. A small benefit reduction here, an increased price there, additional work expectations, RTO mandates, what have you.

So just like if I want that pizza place to add a side of wings, or the lawn mowing service to come more often, that's coming at an increased cost. The original conditions don't apply any more.

Problem is, Oracle "forgot" to provide any corresponding benefit to offset what they decided to remove or reduce. So, the only way to try to make things somewhat right is to waste their resources, on-the-clock time and or physical assets. I happen to be versatile enough to do a bit of both.

This is the only way to get the situation back to where it originally was, where both sides agreed and were happy with it. Oracle isn't changing things back any time soon.

You may not like it. You may whine impotently on a message board. You may hope that people like me are fired. 🥱

Guess what? I'm not about to change so you'll have to find a way to come to terms with the way it is. Super sorry...

@aa

And those folks are highly regarded during layoffs and are only let go as a last resort?

😆😅😆😅

Do you have any other hilarious takes as I fritter away this afternoon doing no work at all?

@a3 so you don't think clicking on that link puts you on their radar? The CIA and NSA are incredibly well funded. Setting up a honey pot is cyber defense 101.

@ar 100% agree. Building financial independence is building confidence so you can stand for yourself. Oracle has zero loyalty to their employees. Why should you ki-l your health/sanity/peace for a company which can and will lay you off whenever they are scared?

@aq no need for that. My focus is on personal financial management. Once I leave I will not need another job, so at this point, I’m just spooning gravy onto my plate each day that goes by.

@aa OP here. You filled knowledge gaps with your imaginings. I’m at the end of my career. I have no need to build it or have current leadership view me as a valued employee. I did that for successfully 25 years at other companies. I’m now at the extreme tail end of my working years and extracting a little payback from the company that disrespected so many of its employees over the last five years is a wonderful game. When I look back at my time at Oracle, I’ll remember the excellent work I did even if I wasn’t rewarded, and I’ll hold my head high knowing that at the end, stood up for myself and didn’t just be-doverand take it. I’m likely unique in my position, but no matter what happens, its a plus. Lay me off? Cool. Keep me on? Sure, each extra day puts about $400 in my pocket. If my behavior finally catches the eye of exec management, it won’t matter. What are they gonna do fire me? Any uncomfortable ultimatums and I walk same day. This is all about standing up for yourself and not licking the boot because you’re afraid you might lose your job. Living with no fear sets you you free. I only wish others could experience the same thing. Keep saving your money because one day you’ll have enough that you’ll become invincible to whatever Oracle tries to throw at you. When YOU hold all the cards you realize how powerless Oracle and it’s upper management actually are regarding your life.

I work one hour a week , no more . For the last 3 years. But everyone is aware of that . If I get a project that needs 2000 hours I'll do them , working 10 or more hours every day . But I don't , and I'll never will.

People like op are an embarrassment and deserve to be let go. They seem to think that a corporate job is the same as their job working fast food as a 16 year old: transactional and only when they have rec’d an order. You want to build a CAREER and be a valued employee? Seek out work…make something better…fix a gray area…learn something to make you worth giving assignments to…help people like me who are buried with work…look for another position. The sense of entitlement these days takes my breath away.

Using AI on everything, even the smallest most simplest tasks. Looks like an employee fully buying into AI revolution.

Get my pay to at least middle band and then we will talk about productivity.

@OP is the kind of guy who deserves to be fired for cause. I'm no "fan" of Oracle management, and I got RIFd by Oracle after 20 years of employment. For @OP to gloat over stealing money that he hasn't earned is disgraceful. He should be canned.

Here's the skinny -- Many employees who have been RIFd by Oracle and are still trying to find another job wish they could have been retained to keep getting a paycheck and medical benefits. But @OP is an arrogant bozo who thinks he's "entitled" to his money and benefits no matter how little work he actually does.

The job market is in the toilet, so the last thing you should do is to sit on your fat chops day after day and risk either getting RIFd or outright fired. If you're unhappy with your job, then certainly look for another job, but at least do your assigned work since you're getting paid.

@OP

Excellent! Executive "leadership" seems driven to continually chip away at the employee experience, all while expecting more out of us. Any methods to try to tip scales a bit back should be applauded
