Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Where did the TM(s) w/intel go?? I need more!

I've been monitoring this site for the last month or so. I'd like to ask whomever knew the actual details (dates, we'll get email to WFH next week, etc) to come back & post what we can expect on Tuesday. Will everyone getting a meeting invite - one group who are laid off & other who are not (at least not this round)? Will it be by pyramid? And why Tuesday? Why not just do it yesterday? Did MF send the email on Thursday because the rumor was growing or was that the plan all along? We didn't get a heads up in 2015, so while I guess it's nice to know it's coming, 5 days notice is just too long.

The press didn't need the permission of MF to post their story. He probably thought they did but is quickly finding out what he cannot control as CEO. Maybe they agreed to not to post their story untill Target told us TMs. That explains why the article posted just as we got the email.

@an I prefer the way they’ve chosen to do it over a meeting with my direct leaders who I talk to regularly. My manager or director wouldn’t be able to do more than just read from a script. That would feel super cold. I’d rather that not be my final experience with them.

@ar Mostly just to tell people to work from home. Given the RTO push they had to give an explanation. You can't just say, "Work from home next week, it's a secret as to why"

@aq I understand they have relations with the media. We all know that. But why send an email on Thursday telling everyone they will find out on Tuesday. Even if you don’t work, be sure to check your email.

@ap I’m pretty sure that was a planned external communication so they could have full control of the narrative. Companies do offense like stuff like this all the time. Target has relationships with all major media outlets and provides them with information proactively.

Do you think we were emailed on Thursday because the press was going to leak it? Gave MF an ultimatum? You either tell your employees or they will learn from us? Clearly the press already knew since they released articles minutes after the email was sent

@a3 attendee names hidden and no cameras is soooo depressing. I know it’s to protect privacy. But I can think of so few ways this experience could be made more impersonal and lonely.

I was told by my L8 that everyone will be getting an email on Tuesday morning. You won’t know if you’re part of the layoff group or still employed until you open the email/join the meeting.

It’s possible he was wrong but they were pulled into an impromptu “private” meeting Thursday morning before the news broke. He probably has the broad strokes but not the specifics like names and departments.

@a4 I know it’s a very anxiety riddled time. I empathize with you all as I was recently laid off from TGT after a long tenure. Mine happened as part of a small group of layoffs with absolutely zero warning so it felt very personal and lonely. I have intel that I have gotten info from. I feel like I’m living this all with you. My sources have told me logistics and details regarding the layoffs but have not mentioned a single name or department to me. Names of higher ups impacted have been kept very close to the chest. In terms of which pyramids and departments I’ve heard merch/planning will be heavily impacted but that was not directly from my source who has verified info so take it with a grain of salt.

@a3 thank you for this. Knowing a bit of what to expect helps my anxiety. Any intel on areas impacted?

I know there are so many q’s and it’s so difficult. My heart goes out to everyone! Tuesday those impacted should get an email with the meeting notice, probably between 7-8am. The latest plan was that it would be done in one virtual meeting with Melissa Kramer leading the meeting. Individuals not impacted might have a meeting afterwards or later in the afternoon, it depends on their area, how heavily it was impacted, if their leaders are still there or not, etc. There are a lot of leaders and higher levels being impacted which is why the news is coming from Melissa K. The individuals impacted will have access to their email and TGT systems for a little while that day and then all access will be revoked. You can always still access TGT Pay and Benefits. The rest of the week will be used to communicate more information and strategy with team members not directly impacted. Layoff meetings are generally fairly impersonal as they read from a script and don’t stray from it much as what they say has been vetted out by legal and they are advised on the information they can share. Having it virtually and in such a large group it will feel even more impersonal. People will most likely not be on camera and attendees names will probably be hidden.
