Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

60 days is the Warn act

Wanted to ensure everyone knows that the 60 days that is provided is not out of generosity of target. Its a way they are actually getting around notifying the minnesota government of the mass layoffs. Instead of notifying the government first 60 days in advance of a planned layoff, its notifying employees and at the same time telling the government. Look up the minnesota warn act.

Just piling onto the absolute abysmal job target is doing to communicate.

@aj a non-exec is not going to get anything remotely close to that deal.

@ag I can’t speak to this, but it could effect your ability to qualify for unemployment.

@aa if you start a new job before the 60 days is up, you will not get severance pay. If you find a new job and can push out your start date until after the 60 days, then you will still get your severance check. Of course this will all depend on the specific terms of this layoff and when the severance contract will be signed. Those of us who were laid off earlier this year may have different contract terms than this layoff. Regardless, one the contract is signed and the revocation period has passed, you’re free to start new employment.

@a8 so if someone is laid off on Tuesday, they’re technically still employed by Target through Jan 3rd?

If that person were then to get hired by another company before Jan 3rd, they would have to formally quit Target and would then no longer be eligible for the severance which is paid out on Jan 3rd (from what I’m hearing)

They've called this out a bunch of times... Folks won't be officially laid off until Jan 3rd, that's well more than 60 days, so WARN act won't be filled until after they inform folks.

WARN is tied to pay & benefits, so as long as they offer to cover that for 60+ days from notice, they aren't breaking any rules. This is actual pretty common with the Fortune 500 companies

@a2 I feel for everyone who's had to go through this. not only are they treating people poorly, circumventing a rule, they are paying a FINE to do it??? 💀

From all of us over at UHG - warn notices are ineffective. They will just pay the fine.
