Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

That’s it. I’m done.

More than 15 years with Nike. I gave it every chance to change and improve because of those good early days. But I’m done waiting and wasting time with a company that lacks vision and a real future. I just landed another job. Not better by any measure, but in a different environment. If I stayed here another day, I’d have jumped out of my skin. Wishing you all the best. And if you end up as fed up as I am, don’t hesitate - leave. There’s no point staying somewhere that makes you feel awful.

Getting comfortable changing jobs is really a giant way to increase your skills and keep them current.

I wish I had that mindset many years ago instead of "staying and making the best of it".

@aj+1k39fqr9k - I’ve been out of Nike for a few months now and I completely agree with your comments. I’ve gained more experience in the last few months at my new job than I did in the three years at Nike. The over-emphasis of soft skills, the boredom, repetition, and general lack direction and leadership resulted in a big waste of time. Sad thing is I realized this within the first year and was stupid enough to sick around hoping it would change.

Everyone has a red line and most people I know the company has crossed it repeatedly. The grass might not be greener elsewhere but you will most likely gain new experience and progress your career more meaningfully by leaving.

I’m convinced Nike destroys peoples careers at this point. The company teaches people toxic soft skills, there’s no correlation between performance and advancement, and most people have no real achievements to celebrate on their resumes after grinding there for years and destroying their mental health. The only thing going for someone working at Nike is the name on your resume and a decent paycheck.
