Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Paranoid: Is this truly anonymous?

Wondering if anyone who has posted on here have had their post come back to haunt them? Have questions but don't want to ask them if it could come back to me...

@ap So, you're saying to use a VPN that shows your location as Hawaii. Got it!

@aj The can contact you but in reality, would have a VERY hard time letting you go for a post that you are in every way possible, allowed to make. They may not like the post but they'd be arguing against the first ammendment in court.

So long as you aren't divulging any privy information or things like that, of course. But to come here and spill the beans on "what you heard" or even just your feelings about Dell? Yeah, they can't do po-p about it.

At the very least, don’t be d-mb enough to read or post to this site with a company device and/or on the company network.

@a6 well i wouldnt say its your 'private' acct and also have that you work for dell on there. for any faults, companies are well within their rights to get on your back for social media posts where you have them in your profile.

Use a reputable VPN and pick a backwater location like the birthplace of Barry Soetoro.

Use a VPN if you must. If DELL HR ever contacts you then tell them to kick rocks.

"This site is probably pretty safe in all honesty but, many years ago on Instagram I made a comment that was just an opinion - my comment/reply was going against what whoever I replied to - and they tagged Dell in their reply because I had in my bio that I worked for Dell. At the time, I had my actual name as my IG handle as well.

A week later I was literally contacted by Dell HR lol. Nothing happened but I changed my IG handle to something else. I was basically asked to take "precaution" when posting online as I "represent" the company.. Yeah, no i dont. If I want to call someone a stupid xyz on my private SM account, then I can and will.
D-mbest sh-t I've ever experienced lol."

You might want to read you employment contract and social media agreement, even your private account is subject to being Dell IP if you work for the company. You are also required to put the #Iworkfordell hashtag if anyone can determine that your profile is related to a Dell employee

No, nothing and I absolutely mean NOTHING... on the interenet is 100% anonymous. EVER. Every time you post a comment/post, or he-l, even come to this site; your public IP is logged. So just coming to the site already logged your public IP address and if you create a post/comment, the moment you press the "submit" button, that action is logged to your IP address and is 100% trackable. Dell would need to do 1 of 2 things to find out who posted xyz though.

A) They can contact the site owner and ask them to remove a post - likely for a fee.
B) If the site refuses to remove the post/comment, Dell can file for a warrant to have it removed.
C) Dell can file for a warrant to have the site forcefully give Dell the IP address of who created the post/comment.

B and C are very unlikely as that costs money and time and 99% of the posts/comments on here are not going to harm dell in a financial way lol.

Technically speaking, NOTHING is truly "anonymous" on the internet. If Dell/or whoever really really REALLY wanted to find out who posted a post/comment, they could BUT, they'd have to get a warrant to have this site dig up the IP address of that particular comment/post. But no, without a literal warrant and reason for that warrant, a Dell exec/manager/HR/etc.. or whomever can't just come on here and demand the site tell them who made xyz. They can ask the site to tell them in which case, the owner of this site can either say yes, or no.

Because most of us don't have an account on here - as in we signed up with an email or something - this is far more "anonymous" than places like Reddit, snapchat, telegram, bla bla bla or idk, places where you are required to provide some type of email/number.

Long story short, I'd say it's pretty safe but I use a randomized double VPN to post on here just in case lol. Like I said, Dell would need to get a warrant to even investigate any post here and, it's very unlikely they would ever be granted one simply based off of a comment/post as there is no guarantee the poster/commenter even works for, or worked at Dell. Imagine getting a warrant then finding out the post you investigate was made by an unemployed person who got inside info from a dell employee. TF they going to do now?

I suppose the ONLY thing they'd go after are the NDA posts floating around here and having been under that NDA, then laid off a few weeks ago, I know exactly what it is how it works and all of the internal IP's/NAT's for this project. If I were to spill the beans on all of that then I suppose they could get a warrant for my comment/post to have it removed at the very least but that'd likely be the extent of it as it would actually cost them money to pursue legal action.

And no, I am not going to reveal what the NDA is.
