IBM to reduce 20% of workforce in Slovakia

The US technology group IBM has begun a new round of job cuts in Bratislava, with hundreds of roles at risk as the company continues to scale back its workforce in Slovakia.

No real surprise here, AI easily replaces low to mid level jobs, so these types of locations will get trimmed quickly. That is a quick cost savings. IBM will have a more difficulty replacing high level jobs with AI in the US for example.

Maybe that is the reason we have not seen (yet!) layoffs in the US this year?

@af -- Still getting the page not found error and can't get anything from Google's cache. But was able to find more info. from Google's AI results:

"IBM is reducing its workforce in Bratislava by cutting 439 positions, with employment for those affected set to end on May 31, 2026, as part of a strategic shift toward artificial intelligence and cloud services. The tech giant's Bratislava hub, previously a major center with 4,600 employees, has seen its workforce drop to roughly 3,000 amid these restructuring efforts."

cheapening everything to fund the skillless top

maybe they will use pygmies, cannibals, and eskimos next

this obviously can't continue and will crash
why would members of society voluntarily work with or support
a bunch of non useful wealthy parasites
it is not beneficial to the society as a whole

Welcome to the dumpster fire that IBM has become. Since 4-1-93 when the G Man Gerstner came in and burned up the IBM culture, IBM has been chasing cheap offshore labor now for 4 decades and will never stop. It is trying to save it's way to prosperity to fund executive pay and bonus's and juice the stock price. I bet Africa is the new labor target for IBM.
