Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Now starts the hard part

Those of us who lost half our teams and weren’t absorbed into other groups are about to live a nightmare. They might reduce our workload because they know we physically can’t do it anymore, but I highly doubt it. Get ready to go from overworked to “family, what is that?”

@ac this place has churned through 4 ceos in 10 years, which reflects a dysfunctional board and culture..there’s no long term, coherent vision or strategy being executed, just perpetual crisis management. The work may be misaligned as you say, but it doesn’t go away…no exec wants to own any failures, even if they didn’t initiate them, so you get zombie projects that go on for years in fits and starts with halfhearted pivots every time a new set of leaders rotate through.

@b0 is it Prod Mgmt, Claims Experience, or A&A? Prod Mgmt still needs its span of control corrected (on the docet), CX reduced Clyde's 100 headcount ask, and A&A cut a few heads. Did I miss any group? Oh yeah, DNS still has the reconcile in the next round.

@ac so well said! I know a P&C team grew its EMGs by almost 2 times the size! So yeah, all the non-EMGs are just part of supporting cast to make EMGs look needed and important.

There won’t be more work because most people are just acting busy or doing work that adds zero value. You have no idea how much of our work aligns to absolutely nothing. It’s all bs work to make execs look like they are needed. The board has caught on to this, and these layoffs will continue until their couple of objectives are truly impacted. I’d bet they see another 30% of this org (not member contact) that could be cut immediately.

Yeah, it’s gonna be rough. This place does not know how to focus, so everyone is going to absorb more work, and if you try to prioritize something at the expense of another effort, they’re going to gaslight you and say you’re not doing enough because everything is important. (This is the kind of sh-t I was hearing in the wake of previous reorgs).
