Thread regarding USAA layoffs

@USAA is getting trashed on x.com for hiring so many H1Bs

Go to x.com and search for @usaa and click "Latest" at the top and have a look, lots to look at, at least 3 whistle blowers have come forward providing information about whats going on at USAA to the public.
It looks like Navy Federal is doing the same thing...
Its been revealed that USAA has 11.5 Indian H1b workers for every FTE.
So a 1:11.5 ratio FTE to H1B ratio

@qq “oh think of the browns” - a USAA employee

(#1 DEI programs at USAA were supporting Veterans, military spouses and families - ESPECIALLY hiring) - all of that has evaporated (other than meaningless words). There is actually hiring strategy that is funded.

But sure - associate DEI with only brown people. Ignore veterans, disabled veterans, military spouses, and their families.

@qr funny that the biggest fraud against USAA came from an on-shore third-party supplier from the south (Louisiana). It really do be the red hats pointing one finger with three pointing right back at themselves.

Every job posting for a while states do not apply for this role if you will need immigration support – H-1B. The people that you are talking about may have been hired before this change but the first round of layoffs way back in 22, I believe, were all contractors, over 1000 of them. Now they may have them hired via suppliers, but they are not employees.
If you have true dismay for third-party contractors, you need to just leave the company because that hatred has no place at USAA!

H1B by definition was supposed to fill jobs where there were no Americans with the skill. There is no excuse for an H1B to be kept while a non-H1B is laid off. It's disgusting. You saw it as a path to permanent life in America. That was never the intent. It's a Temporary worker program. You're cheating. You're robbing American college graduates' future. Get the h--- out of my country.

H1B needs to be abolished along with the L1 loophole for good.

@ab America is for Americans. H1Bs are foreigners, and 75% of H1Bs come from a country that is responsible for almost the entirety of fraud, scams, phishing, etc. Literally zero H1Bs belong anywhere with any potential access to anyone's financial information.

@ny My pity well for 'oh think of the browns' evaporated when I saw companies blowing millions of dollars on ESG / DEI programs.

These programs exclusively to give special treatment (HR 'reporting' avenues for hurting the feelings of a protected caste), special incentives (extra days off for protected holidays), special training (seminars exclusively for 'women in the workforce' they get certifications from), special promotions (if the next level of management needs 'diversity', and you are 'diverse'... oh and if it's all black women, that's still diverse, somehow), special celebrations (decorations and events and parties for nonsense Star Wars voodoo like Diwali), and special opportunities (every analysis of everything DEI has shown that mediocrity is rewarded, because expectations are lower).

Every single possible demographic permutation of human on the planet exists to get these rewards with the sole exception of straight White men. This literally translates to 'straight White men are intentionally discriminated against' if everybody else always gets special treatment.

I won't feel bad. I will never feel bad. I assume every 'brown' got there because they're brown, because that's the system they wanted, one where 'brown' means you are given special attention. If you don't like this system I operate under, you should have thought of that before legitimizing something like Adelante, Mosaic, etc.

A lot of questionable analysis here. One guy claims it's all racism, same baloney I've heard for 10 years now.

Another guy wants to include the ENTIRE USAA workforce when comparing H1B. Yeah, H1Bs are used in the tech-industry, not as an insurance adjuster, or HR or Finance or the vast amount of other roles in a bank/insurance company.

Another person offers actual links to list all the H1Bs, confirming that yes, they're hired in software! No surprises.

Having worked in the tech industry for 30 years, I can tell you that H1Bs usage varies by company considerably. At one company I word for it was maybe 50% contractors, 50% citizens of mixed race. The contractors were about 100% H1B. Using contractors/H1B was largely a mandate from the company higher ups who wanted cheap labor.

So I have no problem believing that USAA hires a lot of H1B visas. Claims of "it's all racism" just fall a bit flat these days. It's gotten a bit old after a lot of years, especially after seeing it play out in the real world.

@nm given that average teams are 8-10, “so many” is relative.

“Whistleblowers” on X is comical for so many reasons. I think you mean white nationalist supported by fake bots went to X to cry about brown people he sees at work and confuses them for contractors by other companies being underpaid for trivial work. Oh the layers upon layers of incompetence. I’m guessing you work in IT? Data? Yes, if I were that incompetent that I peaked my IT career at USAA I’d be threatened by offshore people doing data entry too.

This entire chat is giving “papers please” and whites only. So we see a brown person in the hallways and we immediately assume they aren’t a US citizen? Yikes. Y’all need to go back to church.

@j9 then we should be mad at those companies. (Which have only decreased in our use since 2012).

Also, look at the work that is being performed. In order for USAA to keep its high dollar minimum wage for American employees- the low value, manual work is 4th partied to low wage employees. I’m not sure why this is controversial?

Additionally, almost all of those companies are offshore companies who hire locals in their country - not H1B visa employees.

@nm so our third party suppliers our leveraging H1B visa - not USAA. Trust, I know USAA has issues - but direct this energy at the companies doing the hiring.

@GT how many H1Bs have been hired by USAA by way of TCS, HCL, Cognizant, etc?Agreed, 1:11 is comically high, but just looking at direct H1B filings by USAA is comically low

@OP this is factually not true. This information is reported publicly. 1:11.5 ratio would also mean that we have 385,250 H1B visas. We don’t even have that many third party + offshore. This is comically false. The person below is correct, USAA refiled 378 annual H1B visas (not new ones). Just stop.

Please go and apply as an external candidate. There is a question that clearly states that USAA does not sponsor H1B visas and then asks if you will require an H1B visa. If you answer yes it is a hard stop. (Meaning we no longer sponsor- which has been the case since 2021).

This is fake news. Whoever keeps posting this on this site and other sites is either misinformed or is intentionally spreading misinformation. What’s also missing from this conversation is what roles are filled by H1B visas (prior to 2021).

You have to refile H1B visas annually. In 2025 USAA filed 378 (less than 1% of the entire workforce of the entire company). And 18 green cards. WE ARE NOT BEING OVER RAN BY A FOREIGN WORKFORCE. Stop pushing this narrative.

Remember we have construction, landscaping, maintenance, cleaning, etc.

What YOU SHOULD look into is offshore third party/4th party. H1B’s aren’t the issue.

@OP sooooo you got problem with h1b or Indians? Wtf is Indian h1b. Lol. Easy bro! This 3p to fte ratio has been in place for years now, going back to Joe Robles era. Don’t know before that because I wasn’t here.

I don't understand why this is just now getting so much attention. It's been like this as long as I can remember, back a decade ago I know bank and pnc had 70:30 3p to FTE ratios on IT project teams.

Not making any judgements one way or another I'm just saying I've been here 16 years and it's always been like this here.

Can confirm. Walking SAT is like Delhi. Bathrooms have gotten a he-l of alot worse too. 2nd floor had po-p on the floor a couple months back.

Also it's why the scams have gone parabolic. Member data is handled offshore in Bangalore now so they have full access for scamming and phishing

I don't see the issue with H1B.
America is for everyone. We must move beyond national boundaries. It is the only way to defeat racism. If everyone is Indian then there is no more racism. I am willing to accept my white defeat to my Indian masters in response to my white guilt and inherent racial evil.
