Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

4 days per week in office RTO coming?

Rumor from WCIB is that we will be expected in office 4 days a week. Guess they are trying voluntary layoffs again to get people to quit.

The Portland hub has loads of space and empty desks but I haven’t seen any job postings at that location for a while now.

@k1 Chicago has major capacity issues at 3 days a week. MPS is consolidating and extra space will go away though I don’t know if that will create the same problem Chicago currently has.

Where is everyone working out of where they can’t find space? There seems to be an abundance of space at MSP plaza.

@aa yea they're not redoing workspaces. There's a reason that Fargo still has the same coffee stained cubicles from the 1990s, which were probably used when the bank bought them at that point. Redoing cubes is incredibly expensive and the bank doesn't have a few million to dump into a single hub just to get more desks. They'll reduce staff to make sure everyone has a desk before they spend money on anything.

@c1 they'd just start firing people. They don't care. There was a comment further down about how they calculated out the space for 3 days a week, and that seems the most logical. I'd guess that they'll continue to try to "optimize" real estate as they can which means less not more.

I call BS. Getting people to show up 11 / month is challenging enough not to mention the lack of accommodation.

Doubt it. In some hubs, they closed/consolidated buildings and now have less buildings/desk space than they did back when most people were in office permanently. There are not enough desks to hold 100% even one day a week in the office in work, so expanding that to 4 days per week would make it very difficult to ensure everybody has a spot (it already can be difficult on some days). They would have to expand the # of desks or add another office (which I doubt they are going to do), I feel like they are content with the current RTO and whatever they do next is a ways off and will probably be more dramatic than just making it 4 days per week.

I keep hearing this rumor, but the hubs are designed to only hold enough people at 3 days per week. Smaller work spaces would do the trick, but that's quite the expense.

That's nice. Still not doing it. I hope senior "leadership" doesn't end up with hurt feelings over unmet expectations.

That'd truly be a shame.
