NIKE'S BIGGEST MISTAKE

destroy independent dealers network who had connection with their local markets, customer base and worked hard everyday to maintain positive relationships from Nike and their local customers.
Each individual dealers knew the market and provided what customer demanded. And from broad Nike offering they selected and provided what customer wants
For example: I had couple of store where there were majority of population was Hispanic and I worked hard to provide what they wanted. And I had a friend who had stores in mostly African American inner-city area his store offering was totally different than mine. And a friend in Central Valley rural area had his own offering of shoes that people in his area wanted.
Now, Nike eliminated all of their distribution system that helped to get where they are.
Instead, they have a system where it is one size fit approach.

Greed is what it ki-led the Nike. They thought that they could do everything by themselves with their minimum wage staff in the store. WRONG!!!!

Communism failed everywhere in the world because they thought that being is big is the best answer but history has proven thousands of individuals will beat communist every time.

I was told that eliminating all the independent dealers was PK's idea and ditto for hiring JD as CEO.
PK built Nike but he is also main reason that Nike will face negative future.

@da 3rd Party Sneaker Market is dead and buried. Six feet under with block of concrete on top of the casket.
I have family members and friends who are in it and they are all about to go bankrupt or dumping the below their cost to get their money back.
When Nike store is selling them 20%, 30% below their cost, who buy it from resellers? LOL

@d4 pretty much, JD acquired a data analytics companies, tried to pivot the company into heavy analytics. A company in Boston was bought....then just dried up, that knowledge, I think gone......and ya, the direction of the company seemed like a cold algorithm, and when you do that for a brand, it shows, the brand become cold, cold like JD

that's the power of a brand, people sense it, feel it, but when the leadership takes that away, makes the brand 'robotic' it shows, and it shows loud and obvious

so whatever happened to the 3rd party sneaker market, is that dried up too?

@OP @OP Nike talked about data. Specially under JD. Like Facebook, amazon talks about data.
But at least Facebook and amazon turns their data into something meaningful and profitable.
D-mb JD and asxkissing Nike upper management turn those data into nothing. In another words, they turn data into junk data.

The important data Nike needed was sourced from human kind, not from AI or computers.
When Nike cut all the independent dealers, the data that came from them was cutoff and eventually dried up. And when d-mb JD came in, he relied on computer generated or who know what data and pointed Nike into a cliff.

Nike was d-mb. More distribution means more units sold. Cut retailers and less units got sold. Who would have thought. And you open the door to competition. Nobody is going out of their way to seek out a brand in some dedicated full price store. People want instant gratification so the product has to be there. Or the consumer buys something else.

@OP when the issues is as big as eliminating all the independent dealers, had to have approval from PK. MP was the executioner but the Lord PK had to ok it.
PK always wanted to do direct to consumer. He got his wishes come through but might have ended up ki-ling the company

I think you spotted on! But the reason is different!
People and generally younger generation are coming and they want customized sh-t, they want to know the brand and treating people equally, they want to feel connected and respected….. and they are too sensitive!
Think about it, that advertisement of Boston Marathon, 15 years ago people would laugh, “expert” would say “OMG Nike is so bold” runners and walkers would be motivated!!
Now all this people get offended! Everything backlash! Those ba----ds only want a participation trophy!
We also have to fix this as well! To connect more with younger athletes without going fully woke (sorry this doesn’t work purely as well)!

CDO was to ki-l the independent small buyers. That was under MP in ‘17. I get it JD was a bad choice, but this is Nike’s own failure that dates back as early as 2016.

Since around 2016, it feels like a lot of companies have leaned so hard into “woke” messaging that they’ve lost sight of what their customers actually cared about in the first place. When every move starts to look like it’s about making a statement instead of delivering a solid product or service, people notice and not in a good way. It creates this sense that the company’s priorities have shifted, and that can chip away at trust pretty quickly. Long-time buyers especially can feel like the brand they supported isn’t the same anymore, like it’s drifting in the wrong direction instead of sticking to what made it dependable in the first place. Brands like Hookas should never have been able to chip away at your market share in the first place. That’s a sign something important got lost along the way. It’s time to go back to the drawing board, refocus, and get back to what made Nike stand out. clear identity, strong products, and a connection with customers that actually felt real.

also, good thing about maintaining certain level of dealers is that, using accounting law when a products leave NIKE warehouse are considered sale and it is off the Nike's book.
Since Nike is final seller or retailer, they cannot do that until sale is made in their POS. And they cannot "channel stuff" through their distribution system like they used to to muffle the financial impact, now only option is to do incredible sale in their Nike stores.
