Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

RIP VBS Irving

So just a little update from our oh-so-generous employer: we still have jobs, how lucky we are, but of course it comes with a lovely caveat. We either uproot our entire lives and relocate, or for some of us, we’re stuck here with no options due to legal or personal reasons. And they gave us the super generous advice that we can apply to new positions here, except surprise, there aren’t any that most of us qualify for. So we just get to work for two more months, no big deal, and then we get a whopping two months of garden leave, which by the way is a huge downgrade from the four months they gave people last time. And we only have 10 days to decide: apply, relocate, or do nothing. If I don’t find something in these four months, well, I have no choice but to take the severance and say goodbye. What a dream, right?

And even if I do relocate, what makes me trust that I won’t just get laid off again two months after I completely uproot my life?

Oh, and on top of that, they still expect us to perform as usual over the next two months, making sure we hit all our targets and keep up our usual standards. What makes them think that’s even realistic after all this?

@kf

Garden leave is 60days

We have business as usual till August
Then garden leave for 60days
Then we will be paid out our severance over a specific amount of weeks designated by our severance package

Garden leave is 60 days, never been 4 months.

@e1 Op, Denver , Nashville.

I would advise no one to transfer. If our center was doing the best sales wise. People who transfer are going to get there and they are going to do another round of layoffs or transition you down to care so you can take a 40k pay cut.

I’ve already been informed there is no job security in moving. And at the rate those places are failing they won’t exist much longer either.

Where was the relocation package sending you? I would have thought Frisco had plenty of opportunities unless the entire business group was relocating to OP or Bellevue. I’ve heard that happened to some.

@b0 depends on state laws, it can be more.

it was never 4 months of garden leave unless you were somehow super special, its always been 60 days, which allows them to notify before issuing WARN notices

@a5 that may have contributed, but what you’re talking about goes a lot further than just vbs. The sr manager also led one of the higher performing centers with one of the highest headcounts and successfully piloted multiple new programs for the org.

I’m guessing it’s more of an attempt to mask layoffs similar to what they did with telesales. They “aren’t reducing headcount” but they know for damn sure that there aren’t many of us that cant uproot our lives and move that far with the relo package, and for a sales org the severance makes me think they would rather that we take it and leave.

The thing that really scares me though is the new performance accountability standards they have implemented these last few months, and I worry how many people will actually end up receiving the full severance package if any at all

Yep...they'll make you hit all targets or they'll fire you...meaning no severance.

This is hands down the senior managers’ fault. They’re doing this because of the center’s ‘culture’ — too many people on leave, calling out constantly, or not making their daily calls. That place has been a he-l hole, and they expect everyone to just be cheery.

@a1 more than likely I am, but I need one of their benefits, once I finish milking them I’m out. Hopefully these next 4 months is enough to finish what I need and move on 😏
