Steve Miranda made it pretty clear today at its keynote in AI that support role are going to be replaced by an ai agent.
Skill up and start looking. Don't be a fool.

WTF but what about developers? Does Larry believe all dev roles are obsolete now too?!?!
SM mentioned AI is help resolve all customer issues.
20% trim again ?
Support has never added any value. My experience has been they route the SR to correct team by filing a bug. Sometimes when they recommends a solution for the issue without Dev in the loop, it boomerangs and becomes a critical issue.
This time a bigger wave.
"Just wait for the Agent to deliver a major sc--w up!"
Can you say lawsuit?
"I really don't understand this hyper enthusiasm and blind faith in AI"
Because it is made with magic fairy dust!
As good a reason as any I've heard.
Just wait for the Agent to deliver a major sc--w up!
@pa True and we can only hope
@nv for sure the AI based support will be hallucinating. At O it was always messy management and with AI it will be total organizational disaster, the customer will get lost trying to find out the solution for the issues requested.
AI is literally copy/paste, then rearranging the words to make it look like it is NOT copied, and often muddling the actual meaning in the process.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is possibly a mo--n or is in on the grift.
@hv Same in Middleware Support - just copy/paste from docs/Knowledge most of the time. If you can't solve there is always sick leave. AI can do better than copy/paste and doesn't fall sick !
Oracle Support is already as bad as it gets — adding AI support will be the final nail in the coffin.
Oracle SaaS support is worthless. Engineers just copy paste the text from implementation or user guides. If something goes beyond, they will say its not supported, not a feature or a customization. Also noticed a recent push to CCC/Idea lab from the Support leaders as a way to close SR, which is useless anyway. So yes, no need of Support Engineers for just copy pasting work.
Source?
Is there a video or summary that reports him saying this? Not saying I disbelieve it, but I don't believe it either.
SAAS does not need any support engineers. Most of what an engineer does can be done by AI. Most of the times customers sc--w up the configuration and AI can help detect that. What SM says applies to SAAS not Infra and DB
@dm They cause lot of destruction before they are eventually fired which they know and are ready for.
@ar most requests for Zoom is because the Customer is really not familiar with their environment due to someone leaving or hiring someone incompetent because they are cheap or just plain lazy and not due to product issues. Most zoom session are for silly reasons.
Skill up and start looking. Don't be a fool
FYI
This advice does not take The Oracle Doormat Principle into account.
How often have I seen where those who are brought in to reduce headcount, are the ones eventually fired. This guys time is short!
@b4 OCI is now working on massive land deals for data centers. Not sure where it leaves all of us once they are built and running. Perhaps HAL 9000 will be running operations? Peace and love.
Company name is "Pocket CXO"
Here's your big startup opportunity. AI CXO as a service
CXOAAS
start with CFO since that's interchangeable across industries
Then add inane CMO, etc
WTF, why not. Wall Street will LOVE IT
@b4 exactly. They are moving to infra as a service
@b2 They really REALLY need to be trained in how to effectively work their tickets sad to say this may be the only way to do it. Tough love, that's a great way of putting it. Some of these things would be resolved much more quickly if they just gave the engineers what they need instead of ba----g on about zooms.
@b3 Maybe Oracle wants to focus on the data centers business and get out of everything else, so no support needed.
Like cheap support in India that was brought back to the states, AI will cause more delays and tons of quality issues and they will start hiring humans again. Oracle is d-mb.
@ar To.be honest, customers need some.tough love. Garbage in, garbage out.
I can attest to this as we are working on AI for MOSFusion. Support Engineers will be trimmed and one of the tenets is to reduce SR submission(AI to solve before an SR is created).
I lost my job in the 90s when we trained our replacements in India, and now, EVERYONE will lose their jobs due to AI being trained to take over. Good thing I made a lot of money on crypto so I am just waiting to get laid off for the severance.
@a3 - Sock puppet?
I can see using AI to help do some of the heavy lifting and that's a GOOD thing, but what are they doing to do with customers demanding zooms? Or opening tickets with sketchy information expecting the engineer to start a zoom so they can explain fully, then want a duty manager to escalate because the engineer isn't starting a zoom? THAT'S gonna be fun. 🙄
I really don't understand this hyper enthusiasm and blind faith in AI at all - now every Google search engine user has it turned on, people are looking for a way to disable Google search results with AI that appear in the first place in the results, because AI is hallucinating and is not 100% reliable. It’s too early to cut off human jobs.
That helps boost the stock price 🚀 - popo
Ai will replace Oracle as a whole
Did he mentioned what his role will be replaced with? 🤓
