Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Marketing town hall

So according to our CMO, we don’t need to worry about the presence report any more - she seemed surprised at how much people couldn’t stand it. And market based culture is just about focusing on the customer, not Amazon-style rank and yank sweatshop BS - he barely ever used the word customer in his screed. There does not seem to be a lot of alignment here.

"market based culture is just about focusing on the customer, not Amazon-style rank and yank sweatshop BS"

Really? Let's review:

"For those of you who are fans of management science, this shift can be characterized as moving away from an orientation on hierarchy and familial cultural norms and towards a more externally focused and competitive market-based culture.I understand that some of you may have started your tour with this company expecting an "employment deal" rooted in loyalty, tenure, and conformance with the associated compensation, work structure, and benefits. We have consciously shifted away from some of these elements and towards a more market-based culture — focused on rewarding capability, contribution, and commitment. "

Nothing at all about the customer.

If you are going to lie, you'll need to make it a little bit believable to some or you just look like a buffoon.

Marketing and sales operations are a complete joke. Totally useless dead weight.

@ar no not really. She mentioned something about putting out some sort of standardized marketing skillsets as desirable for certain roles as a way to help people make moves but nothing like what Stankey spoke about.

She tried to defuse the criticism of the presence reporting, return to office and the lack of growth opportunities here and other than trying (lamely) to define market culture, she didn’t parse Stankey’s thing much.

“ I rather like the RTO initiative.”

Not as much as you like your corporate “cabin boy” duties (with monogrammed knee pads).

Did she happen to mention what the 'cohorts and broad patterns of behavior' and 'broad set of information' that is going to be used to evaluate the employees?

"I rather like the RTO initiative."

I am sure you were in the office 5 days prior to 2022.

Just more spin. Stankey probably told his minions to soften and spin his message because employees responded to his email with a big, bold middle finger. It’s not going to work. It was heard loud and clear. He can walk around with a bruised ego and employees rolling their eyes at him. WTF is he going to do if he catches me rolling my eyes. Try it punk

@a2 said by a true id!ot. So in your world next month when the new iPhone comes out we should go dark with all messaging, advertising, offers etc and our customers will ignore the competitors because they like us. You go with that.

Marketing is just one half-step above HR in a company.
