Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

What is happening to our company?

The execs are horsesh-t. They can make a decision but they can’t stand by it. They have no ba--s when they make a mistake and refuse to take ownership. Then they pay gazillions to consultants to make decisions for them. They aren’t worth a tenth of their salary if all they do is transfer that responsibility. The result is us worker bees working triple hours while not being recognized. The execs are wirthlesss.

@d8, that's a healthy attitude but keep in mind many do not even consider their coworkers, for instance, the people who slack all the time you know "gotta get back at da man, the system is against me" types. Many post on this board. They are really just letting their coworkers pick up their slack and still bringing home as much pay in many cases. Those are the same ones who vote for a living instead of working for a living.

@h1 oh I agree, it’s nothing new, I just decided to play along after the second layoff event (I’ve been through 5 now).

@gb+1knbd3jr3, So you mean continue doing what everyone hired in the last 10-20 years has already been doing and a big contributor to the current situation. Don't act like it's something new.

@c9+1 I couldn’t agree more, absolutely be selfish and do what’s in your best interest. They will send you packing at the drop of a hat so exploit every single benefit you can while you can and pad your savings and retirement. One day you’ll have enough FU money to exploit that next EOI like a farewell bonus raise your hand, and tell them where they can stick it

@c9
i probably could get by with the arrogance
if they actually had standards, lived by them, and were very competent
but that is a fantasy

I work for my family and my local coworkers. Outside the Asset is another world to me. There are a few key relationships I maintain with good chevron people.

The executives lost the Chevron Way when they booked 20% of workforce that beloved in Chevron. And did they it Exxon style. This CEO has let the Chevron way whittle into only words these days.

They follow up a workforce barely recovering from a huge reorg with forced rankings and PIPs to dwell on all year now. I am in aww of their sort sightedness. Don’t they realize they will not get anything close to 100% from the workforce?

Stop asking McKinsey for advice. Go back to the John Watson days

Ask yourself- at the end of the day who is it you actually work for? It is for your family, your retirement, and yourself. CVX is merely a means to an end, so do what is in your self interest whether that is staying or moving on. CVX is like a supertanker, once you fall off the wake closes and it is like you were never onboard - and it has always that way.

Duh

But anyone shocked at being laid off was not paying attention. They telegraphed it for months.

If someone forgot to update their emails, its on them. HRSS will help them with insurance after the fact.

Late stage capitalism, my friend.

The sooner everyone tires of this bullsh-t, the sooner we can move on.

@OP Completely agree.

The core issue is that they are incompetent, arrogant, and selfish. They DO NOT CARE. I used to think that they would at least feel some shame and embarrassment hearing what the workforce thought of them. Nope! They have no moral compass.

Somebody once pointed to a study showing the percentage of CEOs whose behavior aligned with sociopathic tendencies, and I regret to acknowledge that I have witnessed that firsthand with several senior managers and at a distance with some members of our own ELT.

Let’s take MW’s actions in the past 5+ years through the 2020 & 2025 reorgs. Would most of us have expected Chevron to kick loyal & high-performing employees to the curb without so much as a thank you? I personally know of colleagues who were in shock and devastated in Wave 1 when they were suddenly let go. Most had just two or three days to exit before being locked out of the building and losing intranet access. Think about if this happened to you. Just from a logistical perspective, imagine how stressful it would be to suddenly have to figure out medical coverage, updating contact info in BenefitConnect and other entities where you might have used your CVX email (which, BTW, many long timers did), and so on. There was not one ounce of empathy from our senior-most leaders. These were good, solid performers, and MW & the rest of the ELT didn’t give two sh--s as they blew up these employees’ lives.

My advice to the younger generations is to be selfish. Focus on doing what is good for you and fu-k this place. MW and his clones don’t deserve the loyalty that many of us old timers have shown to them.
