Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Payer Solutions

What’s going on with the payer solutions business? The IT team keeps cranking out assets that are junk and just dump more headaches on ops.

@4af Seriously. Money talks. The business wouldn't be doubling down on IT spend right now if they weren't seeing real value. You don't dump that kind of cash into something that's broken.

@17r The Payer Solutions business is in great hands right now, and with the new IT leadership everything is running much more smoothly and seamlessly. It’s been a really positive move for Cigna and PS

Welcome to seeing behind the curtain of how Payer Solutions was handled. They laid off many of the good people, never invested in the tools but they require us to say we are happy and like things aren’t toxic. Ick and that’s their legacy. Shameful bosses mandating we call them Leaders. I cringe hearing their voices.

Hope leadership realizes soon how much money they’re spending on these IT assets. The current leadership is wasting money on IT, and we may end up realizing it too late.

@xp It is because they laid off or fired the truly brilliant people during the 2008 financial crisis. The only people left were nepo hires or ppl good at the politic. Then they kepy saying they can not find anyone qualified, so the PDF class said we need H1Bs and OPTs. Then IT has 20 yrs or more to fix things and have failed. Same thing now but with offshoring.

@nw You’re getting downvoted but you make a fair point. Cigna IT had MANY years before HIH was implemented to fix all the problems with our cr*ppy platforms. That never happened. I’m not saying HIH is the answer but the old model wasn’t working either.

I agree. They’re pouring money into IT, but we’re not getting anything that actually helps—just more headaches for ops. Feels like leadership is pretty out of touch with what’s really needed on the ground.

The P.S. business is a mess, largely because it has grown faster than the investment its getting. So it is essentially being run on an antiquated platform held together with duct tape and chewing gum. Add to that the fact that around 20% of the operations and service staff has been laid off and there is really no way to meet service metrics. We're seeing that now and I don't know if the new Evernorth leadership even cares.

I do blame leadership for this. D.Z. wasn't a great leader or a good/trustworthy person and she was nasty to her people, but I do understand that she wasn't given much portfolio investment funding. However, a big part of a leader's job is to effectively advocate for your business to ENSURE that you get the funding you need. Or at least don't endlessly commit to business you know you can't handle.
